Radio interference.

I popped out to drop scripts in earlier brrr cold isn't it? and noticed that the radio on my old Yaris out of the blue started to buzz, and no music or speech on any channel.

This rises and falls in time with the revs on the engine, so I am guessing the spark suppression has somehow broken down,or detached itself,if indeed it is attached.

So when the temperature rises a degree or two, and I can have a look under the bonnet,if anyone has had this, could they please give me a clue as to where to look to see if it's a simple plug come loose.

It's a pretty old car,2003 so expect the odd thing to go wrong.

Would the old metal coat hanger trick work these days? 🤔

Sounds like a bad ground or the head units gone bad. This can happen when you drive around with the windows open playing loud rap music.

I hadn't even thought to look at that.

As I have said before, it is a bit rough round here , I have seen some of the locals pointing to the big print words in the Sun, and mouthing the syllabubs one at a time, while sat in grinder and giant rizla strewn dashboards.

Trying to not get noticed.

They'd probably nick that too, for 6p worth of scrap.

I had the same after having an alternator re-furbished. Found greasy fingerprints on the slip rings. Could be worn brushes?

My first thought would be the roof mounted aerial amplifier. At that age it is prone to water ingress.

DOH! 🥴

Found a cure for this, I changed the readout from trip computer to radio readout, and noticed that it was on AM between stations rather than FM , hence the buzzing.

Simple as that, and stupid of me not to look properly before.

So thank you for the helpful suggestions, and at least it's taught me to look at the simple things first and be thorough, rather than assuming a fault.

At first I thought that my 100 amp boombox was might have something to do with it.

That'll just be for the tinnitus when you're older 🙂

Doh! That's a good reminder to not overlook the simple things; I hadn't even considered that!

It reminds me in my first job when I was sent to diagnose the computer of a panicky client who thought their computer had been killed by a power surge. Looked it over, opened it up, couldn't find anything wrong, was about to declare it dead and pull the drive for data recovery, when my colleague coughed and reached behind a curtain thing covering the sockets to plug the extension lead back in. Apparently the cleaner had unplugged it to power their vacuum...

A more serious similar problem I read about somewhere, might have been urban myth, and unlikely, but still.

Apparently in a Chicago hospital IC unit there were several deaths occurring around 4am on successive days across several bays in the unit.

The hospital authority decided it might be a good idea to see exactly what was happening at that time of day.

So they set up at the nurses station and waited for 4am.

They heard a trundling sound and a cleaner called "pooky" went from bay to bay vacuuming and mopping the floor.

At each bay he unplugged the life support machine, and plugged in his machine.

Now I think this may be myth, I am sure any who are interested can Google pooky Chicago hospital deaths, but I have seen such careless behaviour in hospital here, that I don't dismiss it either.

If I remember correctly, there was an episode of 'Frost', (starring the great David Jason), where something similar was happening in a hospital. (Having said that, at my age I might be remembering that Incorrectly!).  😉
