Open / Close windows using the key.

Several cars I have had allow you to close any windows left open when you exit the car, by pressing and holding the lock button of the key for a few seconds. My Yaris Cross handbook says this is an option set by the dealer. When I picked the car up, I was told it was activated as standard - but it isn't. Is there a setting for this tucked away in the menus somewhere, or does it really need to be done by the dealer. It's also handy to open the windows as you come to the car on a hot day (not today!).

Done by dealer or app like carista. When I picked up the new car last summer I tested it, they don't come activated. Ask the sales person to get it done, got it activated by their technician.

Agreed, I used the Carista app to activate the windows open/close function, and 5 flashes on indicators instead of three. You can also adjust headlight auto setting, but it didn't make much of a difference, they still have a mind of their own. I left rear seat belt warnings as standard but I may revisit as "stuff" dropped into the back often sets them off, or even a rear passengers handbag (and we all know how heavy they are!)

* Handbags, not rear passengers.......

It does need to be done via the car's diagnostic port, but if you know someone with a suitable diagnostic tool as mentioned above you can DIY. I asked my dealer to do it on its first service - It doesn't cost anything.

I will say it's not fantastic - I found I can't walk up to the car while holding down the unlock button to open the windows, as it just doesn't.

It seems you have to be in fairly close proximity and not moving for it to work :unsure: I haven't used it much so far because the time it takes to do it, you can walk up to the car and open the door!

The main reason I wanted it is in case I repeat what I once did and leave a window open during a heavy rain storm - I got soaked running to the car, unlocking it, starting the car, pressing the window switches, starting the car properly, pressing the window switches again, getting out and locking the car and running back to the house, while my neighbour, who was the one who reported the open window to me, was laughing his donkey off at my ineptitude! :laugh: Now I can close the windows without leaving the house! :yahoo:
