Looking for some advice

I just paid about £38 for nearly 28 litres to fill mine up, and that was about 410 miles covered.

Half of those were my normal work journeys, and the other half was this weekend's rounding up of friends and hooning up the A5 to the NEC Auto show and back

That's definitely promising, how would you say it does in the warmer months? Closer to 500 miles between fill ups?

I always fill around 400 miles so couldn't say, but in summer I'm usually putting in 22-26L for the same miles!

Mojo's mpgs are pretty accurate - I tend to get mid-60s in winter, and high-70s in summer. With a bit more effort (and less full-bore launches at the lights :naughty: ) I can get it into the 80's in summer, although that's pretty impossible in winter.

I'm pretty sure there is no car more real-world fuel efficient on the market at the moment. Other cars can get to the 60s, but not as effortlessly as this one, and I can't think of any that can exceed 70mpg so easily - I'm not even trying to and it gives me those mpgs!

Just filled mine today. I live in hilly country and with the extremely cold weather I got 68.17 MPG, without trying to be frugal.

I've really tried with the EV approach but she just will not have it, too much uncertainty for her for some unknown reason.

With a Kona (assuming Battery is still good) she could do a week of those commutes without recharging, even in winter. In terms of range it really is a Tesla killer (because, surprise, it turns out Tesla lied about their ranges). To be really safe, plug it in on Wednesday nights as well as the weekend.

But that assumes she doesn't need to do longer journeys in it, where non-domestic charging is needed. That was one of the reasons I sold our Kona, so I can understand that.

How much would you say it costs to fill the mk4 hybrid?

Look at the specs and multiply it by the cost per litre and multiply that by 4.546. But you will never fill the tank totally and if sensible you will never drain it totally.

But its irrelevant to running costs. If a car has a big tank it costs more to fill than a car with a small tank but if the car with the big tank does better mpg it will cost less to own.

We only fill our tank when we are going on a long trip to avoid refuelling on route. The rest of the time we put in enough to ensure we have enough to get back to the supermarket. Normally we put in about £30 these days.

As the more miserly amongst us would say, the extra weight of all that fuel reduces mpg.

I think we're fairly sure it's something she's going to go for, it's going to cost her more per month on the finance but I think she'll be offsetting that difference with the reduced fuel costs so it'll be worth it. Super helpful information from everyone though, thank you for that!

So we (she) put a deposit down today on a fantastic used Yaris Hybrid Excel, currently Toyota have an offer running where the used finance rate on 72 plate cars and newer is 5.9%. So this worked out to be the same price as some of the older and more basic icon and design's that we'd been looking at.

Thank you to everyone that replied because it genuinely did help in making the decision to go for the Yaris. It's not even my car but I'm really looking forward to her picking it up 😂

FYI, in summer I went minus 30 miles range, then filled up, there was approx just over 2 litres left.
