Yaris Mk1 2002 engine identification

Hi All,

I am a bit confused when I need to purchase parts for my 1.3 Mk1 Yaris Automatic.

I was informed on this site that if the VIN starts with VNK then the vehicle is a French made version.

It does, but on the V5C reg document the engine number starts with 2NZD0. In the Haynes Manual it states that the French-built models are 2SZ-FE and the Japanese are 2NZ-FE.

This is very confusing as there are different engine part numbers for each of these. If I type my reg into a parts supplier, it states the engine is a 2NZ-FE.

On a different subject, I need a new rear number plate. I ordered one online but apparently buyers have stated that the sticky pads supplied to fix them are not strong enough.

Is there anyone that could recommend the best sticky pads or double-sided tape that would work well?

Many thanks

Brian

According to my sources a 1.3 from 2002 should have an 2NZ-FE (75x73.5 mm/1299 cm3/10.5:1/63 kW/86 HP/124 NM/Euro 3), and from March 2003 it is 2SZ-FE (72x79,7 mm/1298 cm3/10:1/64 kW/87 HP/122 NM/Euro 4) regardless of prodcution  (of course there can be a few 2NZ after March 2003 depending on surplus).

Best would of course be id you can confirm the engine number on the block.

VNK is french built 1.3 2SZFE (05/2002 onwards)

but it depends on the actual build date, as there are some cars in the change-over period that are VNK vin with the earlier 2NZ all although 2NZ was never used in French production

Can you PM me your VIN and i will confirm the exact engine and build date

Buy yourself a roll of 3M double sided sticky tape, ENSURE the PLATE and the BACK PANEL are clean and free from dust, use a degreaser (meths or the like) to ensure the surfaces are clean, apply the tape and stick the plate on

Does it not have holes? I could have sworn the Mk1 Yaris numberplates were screwed in... :confused1:

If you have to stick it on, most 3M double-sided tapes will do, esp the VHB stuff, but make sure you get the weather-resistant stuff and not the indoor stuff.

If you want it be very permanent, double-sided butyl tape is the way to go - Once it's bonded for a few days, it'll be so stuck you'll probably rip the paint off trying to remove it later!

As PK says, half the battle is the prep - The back of the car is by far the dirtiest, esp. this time of year, so clean the bejeezus out of where you're going to stick everything!

Screwed in on mine.

Although I may have to change the original plates that have the EU and stars on them soon in order to cross multiple borders.

I hope to be able to travel out of the county in the spring, maybe as far as Cambridgeshire or Yorkshire.

Thanks to everyone for your help.

The number plate I am fixing is on the rear and is stuck on. The front plate is screwed on.

Cheers!
