Hi Everyone.

Have just purchased a pre registered 2023 Yaris Cross gr sports and been told that a years roadside Assistance  is included in deal, can find no paper work in car relating to the cover, can anyone tell me did they receive  a pack with the car or did they receive something in the post. ( hopefully will never need it )

Many thanks

Hi Andy, if I remember correctly the details of the breakdown cover was on the paperwork they gave us but you will receive a letter from the AA confirming you membership. Hope this helps.

Sadly the paperwork side of this is appalling, you are lucky if anything is sent out now - apparently they are reducing their carbon footprint !

I received nothing with mine bought in September and had nothing since but when I rang to tell them I had changed my car they did confirm (albeit by phone) that I was covered on the Yaris Cross I had bought. I suspect that they will write when the 12 months is up asking for money !

Previously they would add any cover still remaining to the 12 months but that stopped a couple of years ago.

Should be a card stuck to the top of front passenger windscreen.

Does the Toyota assist run out on a new car ( July 23) after a year, or does it last for the three years warranty?

New cars come with 3 years/60,000 miles warranty including 12 months Toyota Roadside Assistance.

What Frosty says, but it may get renewed each year if you get a dealer service. Check your particular contract as it may vary.

Have looked at Toyota roadside assistance terms and conditions and it  only mentions 12 months cover and doesn't mention renewal on dealer service.

Has anyone experienced this extended roadside cover by a dealer.

No, 12 months only on mine.

I had no paper work. I'm guessing they check on your reg or something because when I contacted them they sent someone out immediately, no real questions asked aside from what the issue was.

I didn't get any paperwork either so I rang the AA on 0344 701 6201 , gave them my registration number and they confirmed the car had been registered for cover until 6/11/24.

You don't get book packs and badges like you used to get in the 1960'' 😂😂 It's all done on your registration number these days, with the number on a sticker on the windscreen. I have never had any problem renewing, all done online, no hassle

One change a couple of years back, the Roadside Assistance is valid for a full year regardless if you sell after a month or so - no refund.

I don't know if the cover is transferable to a new owner.

My mother got the free AA assistance when she bought a used 2019 Yaris last January (2023) from WR Davies Toyota, Telford. She got no documentation just told to ring number on sticker in windscreen for help if she needed it.

Last month we were wondering what would happen when the year expired in Jan 2024 - I said to her to phone the AA to get a quote on another years membership, She didnt at that time,  but soon after that she got a letter from Toyota offering her the next year membership for a fee of much less than what I pay for my own membership with the AA, where I pay £177 for Roadside and Relay - she got quoted about 90 quid for her assistance package renewal, which she accepted. Pity I cant get that rate without having to go to the Green Flag.

If you have a Toyota you can get that too, but if not you should be able to haggle them down to a similar cost; The AA's prices are obscenely high for a recovery service, I think they've realized, like insurance companies did, that people tend to renew without checking how much they're paying or that they'll just pay their highly inflated price to stay with the familiar.

You can usually at least haggle them down to the introductory rate over the phone by implying you're going to cancel the subscription, but it gets old having to do that every year. The nice thing about the Toyota thing is they essentially do that for you.

I switched to Start Rescue and paid less than half of that, but even my insurance offers recovery at 2 thirds what they now want.

It kinda sucks as Toyota Recovery used to be £52 when I originally started with them and you even got a discount for taking it out on a 2nd car at the same address

Check out Start Rescue. They get good reviews and are cheap(er).

That practice ended some years ago. Companies are no longer able to offer 'introductory rates", just another reason to add why our insurance has gone up but that's a whole subject on it's own.

Cheap breakdown cover is really simple...

1: there are a number of companies all after your business so it's compeditive

2: Look at offers on cashback websites.

3. Consider what you're buying. £177 might offer overnight accomodation and limousine travel home if you breakdown in France, but if you never go to France in the first place then it's a waste of money.

Going thru TopCashBack, I think I ended up paying something like £16 which included HomeStart. I don't take my car abroad so why should I pay for it?

The AA is better than these smaller companies?  Ah yes, the AA.  Many moons ago my new Volvo broke down and that was covered by Volvo who turned out to be the AA. Did the AA patrolman turn up? No, they were all busy so contracted the work out to a local recovery firm.  Just because you're with the AA or RAC doesn't mean to say they're any better than Breakdown-R-Us.

My advice is to read the policy and know what you're buying rather than rely on advertising.

That's how StartRescue work - They don't have a fleet like the AA/RAC/Greenflag, they just contact the nearest recovery place to go get you

I'm pretty sure the AA still do introductory offers, since they're literally offering 40% off right now! Plus whatever coupon codes you can scam from somewhere. It's just the faff of it, as all that goes away on renewal so you have to argue them back down again.

I'm long done with companies that do that; It's why I'm e.g. not with the AA or Virgin Media any more. Prefer more upfront honest and consistent pricing instead of these bait-and-switch drug dealer-esque tactics.

To be honest, I just cant be bothered with all the hassle of having to phone up, get loads of "umming" and "arring" from the call centre staff, arm twisting and threatening to go to the green flag. The green flag dont own any of their own fleet and contract out rescues to local garages who will only tow you to the nearest garage. The AA will take me home or to a garage of my choice if I break down in the middle of nowhere at 11.00 at night.

This year's renewal was a 30% increase on last years price. Just got my home insurance renewal through and the Nationwide want a 36% increase out of me. My car insurance last July went up by 40%. They are all at it, insurance costs are a total con, we are paying for other people's claims, having never actually called out the AA since 2011 when my old Rover 45 threw a rod through the block. Since I have had Yaris's I have not had to call the AA out once. Yet they still penalise me for other people calling them out by increasing my price. That applies to all insurances. The standard excuse is "its because of inflation being high" - yeah, it is, but at hasnt been over 30% in the last year.

That is just not true. National recovery is an option, as it is with Start Rescue.

Yes you get a welcome pack and a card to put in your wallet which equates to AA Euro Cover.

Same here....received nothing...after chasing this up was told a very small sticker top left side of front windscreen which indeed it is and was assured my registration had been documented with the AA

It is one year ....I have signed up to the 3year service plan which gets me additional 2 years ...However this does not save any money just helps spread the cost as following £230 interim £315 full £230 interim £55 1 x mot £178 2x additional years breakdown cover total £1008

So as you can see it is not saving on much if anything at all
