This might well be a first, we have had 2 Toyota Yaris cars and recently changed to a Yaris Cross gr sports, needed more boot space and just never thought for wife to open and then close boot when doing a rd test before purchasing...Problem is wife is to short to reach and close the boot,  do we carry a step , do I now have to go shopping every time wife does or is there a strap that can be fitted or do I find a new wife any suggestions to over come this problem.....?

Is it a manual hatch?

The Excel has remote auto and you can also set the max opening.

I wonder if the manual has a facility to reduce the opening height.

Have you thought of Px?  Get a new model that can reach the open hatch?

Hi Roy

It's a gr sports so manual boot opening , only picked it up a week ago so wont be changing it just yet, have found it's possible to buy a grab strap to aid closing the boot but will speak to dealer and see if they can recommend something.

We had exactly this issue when we looked at a Fabia Mk3 for the wife back in 2015 to replace her Nissan Micra. Salesman told the wife to jump, what she said back was unrepeatable. Bought another Nissan.

But 2 years later I had decided on a Superb and whilst we were sitting discussing details with the salesman I suddenly thought about the boot issue on the Fabia and since the Superb is far bigger thought we had better check. No issue, there is a strap.

Sat back at the salesman's desk I noticed about 3 feet away a Fabia and that also had a strap, wife stood up and tried it, again had no issue. The strap on the earlier car must have been missed. Mentioned it to the salesman who asked about the member of staff, told him he was a Scot, he told us he had left. Its only a single site family business so its not like they have huge staff turnover. A year later we went and bought a Fabia from the Superb salesman.

For the OP, swapping wives is more expensive than buying a car, I have experience of both.

Someone else posted the same issue a few months back; I think they just got an adhesive strap or something like that??

Yes, my neighbour had the same problem.  I bought two shorter gas struts which cured it for her but after that I kept sticking nut on the door.  As she has since succumbed to cancer, we’ve changed them back so you can have them for £20 posted if you want.  I’ll give the money to her partner.

I was thinking more about your mrs but if she never goes out without you, you’re sorted.

How do you know that?  Paul Whitheouse does a cracking Scottish accent. Obviously a clear case of mistaken identity. 🤣

Which reminds me, I was in Florida a few years ago and the waitress said "Oh I just love that accent, are you from Sweden? "

Yes, my old Octavia had that strap too. Even for those who can reach the boot, when the car is filthy the strap allows you to close the boot without getting your hands dirty. Should be on all non-electric tailgates  IMO.
