CarStream (YouTube) for Android Auto

Last couple of days I've stumbled upon many YT videos and internet articles of how to install this app and from where so you can have YouTube on the cars screen (Meant to be used only when parked and so on).

I've tried installing both at my phone a Pixel phone and also my wife's Samsung but with no luck.

Has anyone else tried it and managed to make it work?

Had a breakthrough yesterday and got it to work. If anyone is interested I can probably write here a mini guide or better what I have done to make it work.

I've found this video showing how to do all the process which had the apps he used in the description of the video, specifically his site ,the installer KingInstaller and the app CarStream.

I followed the instructions and got it to show up in my Android Auto in the phone.

Since mine showed up in the car but got a message saying "No new messages during this drive" I continued searching and found This tread in GitHub and Specifically this post so I installed that also and uninstalled and reinstalled CarStream again and it worked.

P.S. If moderators think this isn't safe or supposed to be here I'm actually requesting for my post to be removed.

I've no intention of breaking forum rules or getting people hurt or worse because of their own incapability to refrain of dangerous actions.

Note that this will not work for newer phones running Android 14.

I appreciate that Toyota and Google don't want people running YouTube while driving for very obvious safety issues. Though there's YouTube videos that are basically podcasts so they should be safe. Oh well.

The steps I've posted are those that worked for my Pixel phone running Android 14. There is an even easier way for other phones.

@Fangz please don't spread misinformation if you couldn't get it to work or if you haven't even tried, I wasn't able to make it work also for 2 days but following the steps I managed to get it to work.

Well I don't know what's different about your phone. I did try, I went to your GitHub link but the thing on it refused to install, I looked in the comments and there's lots of people saying it doesn't work, and there's a message from the devs saying it's not compatible with Android 14 with no idea when they might figure out a fix.

I can only suppose you already had some component of it installed before upgrading to android 14. In any case it absolutely fails for me and apparently for most phones. The only option offered is to downgrade your phone which is a factory reset.
