I'm puzzled by the Multimedia touch screen in the C-HR I have just bought - the car was registered in Dec 2022, so I would expect it to be a 2021/22 model. It's a GR-Sport (red with black roof) - a model which was introduced in Jan 2021.  However - one of the features of the "new" 2021 range was that the multimedia unit incorporated a new screen with external push button controls.  The screen in my C-HR has no external buttons (just a volume control) and has a wired connection for Android Auto/Apple play, rather than bluetooth.  It looks to me like my C-HR was made during the transition to the new head unit, & ended up with an old unit... any thoughts? have I been unlucky in not getting the newer spec head unit?

Either way, I'm now in the situation that if I plug in my phone for Android Auto, I can't actually get to any radio controls, other than using the steering wheel buttons to switch between FM/Dab/USB & up/down in preset channels ( but without being able to see the list of available channels)

Sounds like the Smart Connect system with the power / volume knob in left corner.

It will be a 22MY, Smart Connect was new for C-HR in 2022 - no Hybrid badges on front wings will give it away.

That's the asnwer! Thanks.  I thought for  while that I'd been short-changed by getting an older spec system.  It appears that the Smart Connect version just doesn't support bluetooth connected Android Auto & hides the radio controls.

Android Auto is USB cable only on the first generation C-HR Smart Connect system.

Apple Carplay is wireless.

If you want wireless Android Auto then something like an AA Wireless dongle will be required.

If it has only the one button bottom left then it is an MY22. I had GR delivered in May 22 and as I had ordered it in Nov 21 it was going to be a MY21 with the older unit with buttons on both sides so cancelled the oder and reordered in Dec32/Jan22 to get a MY22 model.

Now found how to get to radio (other srf Toyota car features) from Android Auto..... Just need to navigate to the android home screen (with all the app icons) & click on what appears to be the Toyota app.... It takes you back to the cars "native" home screen with the regular functions (phone, nav, car economy etc) down the left side.
