Handbrake light staying on - changed head unit

Hi

My wife's 2005 Rav4 Granite has the handbrake light on. We bought the car with an aftermarket head unit in, which did not have the aerial connected, just used aux cable.

I had the head unit from my old Land Cruiser (DVD Nav unit) so swapped them and connected the aerial for radio. Since then the handbrake light won't go off - fluids are right, brakes aren't sticking, no drive issues.

Has anyone had this preivously?

thanks

Not specifically on my RAV (which is 2021 anyway) but I did once fit an aftermarket head unit to an old car. It had a wire that had to be connected to the handbrake switch/circuit (as a safety feature to avoid use of some functions while driving). It sounds like it might be something to do with how that was connected before and is now???

you have a loose/shorted wire there should be a grey 5-pin plug this may have been bodged, cut out, or not wired correctly

Great, thank you - there was a hell of a lot of wires in there, so that, coupled with the aerial not being connected makes me think the previous owner had the same problem and just unplugged it. will give it a proper look over at the weekend.

thanks...

Wires that had been taped/junction boxed, so probably a DIY job
