Back in 2020, when we were under house arrest, I used One eyelet connected to the +ve terminal and the -ve behind a bolt head on the battery tray support. The CTEK extension was plugged in to it and routed from underneath to enable the bonnet being closed. I think it is the M8 eyelet version.

Can't remember the sizes now except that the +ve pole clamp was larger than the -ve and I had to use a different +ve bolt on my 1.8 Corolla.

In anticipation of the new car I got a tail with M10.

Those photos illustrate exactly why I go for the fit and forget tail to battery option.

And yet I think my way is least trouble.  I’ve got a fly lead but I’ve never fitted it.  Each to his own!

for a YC or X, you want a 6mm eyelet lead but you could make do with an 8mm.

I am considering purchasing a CTEC charger to keep my 2023 Yaris 12 volt battery hopefully in an optimum charge condition. I have read somewhere in the forum the the CTEC will not work if connected to the jump start post in the engine bay. Can anyone expand on this as to the reasons why this is.

It looks like I started a very good debate with my first attempt on this great forum. I followed all the comments and advice given and I have now purchased a CTEK 5 amp charger. Weather permitting I will connect it tomorrow under the bonnet to the jump connections provided. I will route the cable out above the headlight. Thank you all for your appreciated help.

When you say "stop after a little while" did you mean the CTEK LEDs went out?

I used my CTEK on my Corolla 1.8 while it was hard wired to the battery and the bonnet open.

Also on my Yaris Cross where the plug was under the back seat.

No problem in either case.

Not Hard wired. but will show the charge starting and when checked the light will be flashing (i beleive its the mode light that you press to set up the battery/vehicle type) just flashing with no charge in progress showing. disconnect one of the Battery cables and will charge to full fine.

Kev.

A bit late to this topic. I have had a Ctek for a few years now (winter m/cycle top up) not had to charge the Yaris X as only 7 months old and has regular use. But I use it on the Avensis and have found if you connect to the battery with it still connected to the car it will start fine then stop after a little while,

Then probably one of your connections was a bit dodgy... (and the Ctek didn't like it...)

disconnect the battery earth and will charge fine.

Totally unnecessary.

I assume because the bonnet isn't fully shut it wakes up the electrical system so the charger pics up on it and shuts off for safety?

Then you assume wrong. The electrical system can be awake all the time whilst charging. I have mine connected directly to the Battery via a tail and it works fine all the time. I can even lock the car up whilst it is charging. No problem.
