Heated seats

Do heated seats have a built-in thermostat  i.e. do they get up to a certain temperature and then cut in and out to maintain that temperature or once switched on are they constantly providing heat?

The longest time period I have them on (low setting) was about 20 min and it didn’t switch off and my butt would say that it was keeping constant temperature all the time. The heat was not increasing, so I have forgot that it was switched on.

My wife loves the heated seats in my C-HR, and regularly has her passenger seat on at number three.  I don’t bother to use mine in the driving seat but, when the weather was cold I did put it on at setting 2.  Got a bit hot for me so I turned it down to 1, and eventually just turned it off.

Not like the good old days - no heater, no radio, no demisters, and wind out front screen when vision to front was poor.  Brrr!

I'm looking to fit heated seats to an urban cruiser, but I don't know what other Toyota models have the same footprint/size of seat rails of the urban cruiser, does anyone have any info?

Really?  I haven't experienced any limit.  There is a hi/lo but AFAIK thats it.

it's not a hard on/off stat, it's more of a ramp-up/down

You can get retro fit seat heating kits - it does require stripping the outer cover from the seat cushion to fit the heating elements.

I've fitted this kit to a previous car in the past.

Dometic MagicComfort MSH 300 - Carbon insert seat heater, 4 elements | Dometic Dometic United Kingdom

Also fitted this kit in the past on other cars.

Not sure if the seats have a thermostat but on the high setting, I feel like the scene from the wizard of oz where the wicked witch melts…🤪

Thanks fork, I was thinking on say a RAV4 or Yaris seats, that has heated seats pre built in, then get the o/e switch and hey presto, warm bums 🤣.

It looks like it was an option on the urban cruiser, so hopefully the loom is there already 👍

I have expirenced a bit different things in the cars I have been driving:
In my '04 Yaris (0/1 mode) and '19 Camry (0/1/2/3 mode) they seem to be on constantly (although the Yaris does take a long time to be warm since it is core leather instead of ventilated leather) - but possibly it is regulated with some "dial" as flash22 writes.

However in the AygoX I had while the Camry was at workshop it was pretty annoying: I believe it also only had an on/off mode like the Yaris, but it had fabric seats and the heat was intensive - then suddendly gone, then there again, like it was regulating like a switch rather than a dial. It was pretty clearly a hard on/off regulation (or at least not a descreet fading.

There seems to be difference in the various regulators being used based on such behaivors.

In my Hillman the seat heating only comes from how much I !Removed! - so it's usually also only working in short bursts 😉

Probably get a longer period of heat if you “follow through”🥵
