2022 RAV4 Intermittent CarPlay failures

When using WAZE under CarPlay from an iPhone 12 connected using a USB/Lightning cable on my 2022 RAV4 Excel, the screen drops out to the native menu screen for a few seconds then returns to CarPlay. This can happen every few minutes once it starts. I’ve replaced the USB cable with a brand new one. Any ideas?

To get those cheap aftermarket adapters. My dad had the same problem before. He bought a carlink3.0 two years ago and never complained this again.

you mean carlinkit3.0? That's not cheap at all. I spent $99 to get it last year.

Yes, maybe you got it from their resellers. you can get it from their official store with only $55: https://carlinkitbox.com/products/carlinkit-4-0-wireless-carplay-android-auto

The wireless connection is so smooth, I love it so much and I send a 5.0 to my girlfriend as a gift.

But it is only compatible with original cars that have wired CarPlay. My RAV4 does not have carplay, so I need to find a way to make my RAV4 have wired connection first.

Carlinkit v5 is more stable and works seamlessly as the processors is faster and there is better cpu cooling due to some venting on the case.
v3 and v4 “convert” between AA and CarPlay so you can mix n match.
v5 uses no conversion and has significantly less lag on startup (5seconds vs 20seconds to be usable)

i have used v3 v4 and v5 (current setup) with iPhone 11-14 over the last 3 years  - v5 for the last 15 months

also for info: sometimes the lightning part gets “pocket lint” in it. Which prevents the cable connecting fully

So has 5.0 improved the freezing and lagging issues?

I installed a wireless carplay module in my Range Rover. and I use the carlinkit3.0 wireless adapter in my RAV4. I feel that the wireless connection in my Range Rover is smoother than in my RAV4.

I have used the v5 in a couple of hire cars.
took the adapter out of my Prius. Plugged it into the CHR and MG ZS connected straight away, no dramas. Then back into the Prius after the hire had ended.

Have you tried those AI Box? It is only $139 for their 4+64G ai box, if it is as smooth as 5.0, then I will consider a tbox first.

No. Just the smaller adapters. I can’t comment on the ai box.
the Carlinkit is simple. Its only function is converting wired to wireless protocols. It relies on phone and head unit communication for the heavy lifting. Incidentally forgot to mention the “lowest” phone spec I tested was an iPhone XR.
i found that the phone capability was still influential in the download performance as you would expect. So don’t expect an XR to be downloading lossless music over a 3G connection without a small delay on track change. lol

Ok I will order the 2023 Carlinkit Android 13 car tv box first and if it runs smoothly I will share it with you otherwise I will return it in exchange for v5.0

I personally do not recommend their AI boxes. I had 4.0 before I got the CPC200-Tbox Plus (8+128) running Android version 13, and the audio quality for CarPlay calls was a significant downgrade compared to 4.0. Additionally, the box would not switch between my and my wife's phone, whereas 4.0 did that seamlessly. The CarPlay interface is slower (huge difference in using apps like Spotify), there is some audio delay when watching YouTube videos, and the frame rate does not seem to be smooth. On top of that, the screen quality of the Toyota infotainment system is so poor that this doesn't even look good. I tried it in a more modern car, and obviously, the video quality was better, but the frame rate was still far from perfect. I also had to get a SIM card with data plan for it, because sharing the internet from the phone was messy. Sold it 3 weeks later. I was using it with iPhone 13 Pro Max.

On the other hand, I'm supper happy with my 4.0, after recent firmware updates it starts almost instantly. It's working so well that you forget you have it, the experience is like having a native wireless CarPlay. I haven't tried 5.0 but I don't see any reason to upgrade as long as 4.0 is working.
