I was trying to change the HID bulb on my 2009 Estima and was met with a problem (See pics). Looks like the bulb has blown also screwed up some of the bulb holder part. Is this a costly problem or can I just clear out the bits of the blown bulb and put the new bulb in?

If any new parts are needed can someone let me know what I need to shop around for please?

Have added lots of pictures. Hope those are helpful.

Edit: Also anyone have a video of removing the front bumper and the light please? I tried to follow this video:

But the guy skips over the part where he removed the front grill with the logo so I am not quite sure how to open it all up and remove the light to clear out the bits of the blown bulb.

Could use a vacuum?

Don’t touch the glass of the replacement.

Had to do similar to reach broken lamps in the past. Used a bit of garden hose on the vacuum and gaffer tape to seal in order to fit through the hole and manoeuvre to where the broken piece lay.

@Paulscarbs @JohnGW thanks for the suggestion. Tried sucking it with a vacuum but no luck. Looks like the glass had melted in there and formed into something solid. Tried hitting it with various objects to crack it but no luck there either.

I will probably have to remove the whole headlight to gain better access but can't find a good enough guide on removing it.

If its solid and stable why not leave it in place and put a new lamp in? I thought it was loose and would therefore break any new lamp you fitted.

I see there are lots of D4S lamps for sale, on Amazon a number of people reporting short lifespan for lamps that are not Osram of Philips, Bosch etc. Priced around £10 each. On the other hand the really good Nightbreaker Osram's can cost £120 a pair! My local motor factors has these Osram lamp for £75 a pair on offer at the moment. Looks like delivery only though as branches dont have them in physical stock.

Just thought I would mention it.

@JohnGW thanks. I did get an Osram but got the xenarc original. Should have considered the Nightbreaker as I later saw reviews for it and these are highly rated.

I ended up going to a mechanic to get the bulb changed as it turned out the previous bulb that had blown had left a bit of an extra hole so it wasn't easy to fit the new bulb through the gap near the wheel as the bulb didn't want to stay in place. Ended up paying £80 for the guy to remove the front bumper to take out the headlight and put the new bulb in but at least I watched the guy and now know where all the screws are located for removing the front bumper so something I can do myself in the future.

Glad you got it sorted, I will be polishing my lights to see how much of an improvement I get before spending out on the expensive lamps. May still end up buying new lamps as the old eyes could use a bit more light at night now, wont forget to polish the front fog lamps either as they seem to be daytime lights as well.

Came home last night via some unlit roads and light seemed poor so before going to town on the headlights I gave them a 5 minute each clean up with Tcut. Quite a difference already but obviously some yellowing remains until later.
