I have the dealer fitted 380 GW. It works fine and is unobtrusive. The only negative is the interaction between the camera and the app on your phone or tablet which can be a bit hit or miss. You will need to regularly go through the recordings and unlock the ones activated by the parking mode. If you don't do this you will eventually run out of storage on the SD card.

Does the 380GW not overwrite previous recordings? I currently have the 622 which does and I am sure previous Nextbase cameras I have had did the same.

Sorry, what you wrote has just registered in my brain cell -  locked recordings are not overwritten automatically. 🫢

I would stick with the one that you have. How is the 380 a better camera??

Does the parking mode affect the Battery, ?, I can’t imagine it stays in park mode for long if it has a Battery monitor,

Our Toyota is fitted with the 380GW whilst our previous car had the 620GW. The former is less intrusive and cannot be seen by the driver. The latter had a screen which could be set to show the current speed, which meant I could check the car's speedometer. Oddly, the Octavia speedo read a consistent 1 mph above the true speed, rather than a percentage as was the case with all our previous cars. However, the novelty soon wore off. It was also held on with a suction pad and the camera occasionally dropped off, especially in hot weather. On balance I prefer the 380GW as it is more discrete.

I’d stick with your 620gw, however if you want a decent camera with rear too with a parking mode that actually works without draining the Battery I’d contact www.dashcams.co.uk they fitted me a Finevu 1000gw at home, just contact them for a chat, I’ll never fit a Nextbase again

Parking mode has no effect on the 12v Battery. It has it's own inbuilt Battery

I have a dealer fit 380gw and it works fine. Wired to come on with power on switch so no Battery drain when car is powered down. I don't use parking mode but you can buy a little Battery for park mode that fits inside the 380gw unit. Around £25 I think. It will re charge itself when dash cam is working, then goes into park mode when power is disconnected. I don't know for how long it will monitor in park mode though. The 380gw is less weight than a dash cam with a screen so no chance of it falling down like my old 322gw did sometimes.

My old memory is on the blink, but I seem to remember when the car is powered off and an incident occurs the camera will record for 10 seconds immediatly after the event. However, someone may chime in with more accurate information.

Can you not reformat it?

Not my memory unfortunately David, LOL but yes the dash cam can be reformatted.

When you think that, as we get older, we can recall things that happened 50/60/70, (that's enough), years ago, but we can not remember why we went into another room 5 minutes ago, it would be handy if we could reformat parts of our memory. 😊

I had a Nextbase in my previous Corolla, the internal Battery lasted about 15 min in parking mode. Nextbase have moved to super capacitor with their new IQ range,

if you want parking mode, do some research and you’ll find Nextbase isn’t a good choice. Check www.dashcams.co.uk

in my experience, I’ve had a few dashcams, Toyotas dealers are not specialists with dashcams, the 300 series they promote was design for use in lorries

I have the 380GWX (front & rear), fitted by dealer, in my Auris, I really like it. The 380 is Nextbase's commercial model, designed for Transport Company's to fit to their trucks and vans, as such, it is a tough-as old boots, bomb proof reliable, long lasting bit of kit. I've had no issues at all with mine, including connecting to my iPhone (had it 3 years). I don't use parking mode, so can't comment on that.  The 380 is very simple to use / user friendly. It's very discreet, just sits in place, doing its job, so you can forget about it unless its ever needed (all you have to do is press a little button on the side, for 6 seconds, about once a month, to re-format the SD card.

The footage quality is not as good as other cameras, (e.g.  Viofo). So its not popular with people who are really into their Dash Cams, who like to put clips on social media, compare different cameras, alter the settings and discuss on the  dash cam talk forum, as a hobby type of thing.  This is fine by me as I only want mine to be reliable in case its ever needed. Other disadvantage is it costs more than other cameras. Current price with dealer fitting is £400 (Halfords will fit good  front and rear Road Angel cameras for £270). Overall, I really like my 380GWX, due to it being robust, reliable and very easy to use.

It does overwrite previous recordings, recording on a loop type of thing. How much footage it saves before overwriting depends on the capacity of the SD card. a 32GB card  will save about 2 hours, a 128GB card is 8 hours. The biggest card you can put in the 380 is 128GB. Then, about once a month, you press a little button on the side, for 6 seconds, to re-format the card (very esay to do, just reach up to the camera from the drivers seat).

I have the 380GWX in my Rav4. I like the cam it self, video quality is good front and rear footage is crisp. My only gripe is viewing/getting the footage is a joke and the app is terrible. The last thing I would do in the event of an accident is sit there trying to reconnect the phone to the camera via the app and then download the footage. I might be injured etc

They need a far better way of getting the footage.

I find after connecting the wifi it drops out far too quickly, but saving the footage to your phone is a doddle. A few years back I was first on scene at what was likely to be a near fatal accident, a driver left the scene and I was able to give the reg number of that car to the Police at the side of the road in minutes, so it does work fine. Of course in normal circumstances, it just records to the SD card and you would not need to access it at the side of the road. You can email the Police via your phone which is also a handy feature.

You can easily unmount the camera from its screen fitting and connect it to a PC via a USB cable. You can then view and download recordings using the Nextbase viewer program.

With all the types of Dash Cams that down load footage to your Phone via bluetooth, people sometimes comment they have trouble with the connection and/or App, on both Apple and Android, across all makes and model of Dash Cam, the cheapo ones from eBay, Nextbase, Viofo and even the super expensive Black Vue ones.  Ultimately, if essential to get the footage, for the Cops or Insurance, you can just get the SD Card out of the camera.

I wonder if in future there will be data enabled dashcams that upload to the cloud as its filmed. It would tick all my boxes then 🤣

Your prayers have been answered but there maybe a catch.

Look at the Nextbase IQ series.   Anything above base has a subscription charge.

Yes. The newest Nextbase does that, costs about 10 million quid

I just googled it and you're quite right!

They've put all the good stuff behind a monthly subscription service (a modern disease) I wouldn't mind if the upfront cost was a bit higher but no way am I supporting their bottom line with monthly reoccurring revenue!
