Tapping into Mk4 Hybrid 12V system - where, best location?

I have a 2017, Mk4 Hybrid and I need to attach a GPS unit to a '12/24V' supply. Of course the problem is, is that there is no traditional 12V Battery that I can just wire it directly to.

Ideally, I would like it on a high spot under the bonnet somewhere. One lead to the body work another to the fuse box/something or other?

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Tom.

Why would you think that? 🙂

BTW by Mk4 do you refer to Yaris generation or Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive, fourth generation?

Because it is not my everyday drive and when I've lifted the bonnet to put liquids in I did not observe a 12V brick.

So, is there one?

Did you check the user manual? It clearly states where is the Battery 🙂

Ok, I'll go and have a look for it.

I think @Marecek is ribbing you.  The Battery is probably under  the rear seat.

What you are presumably seeking is a positive lead as close to your planned location.

They you are looking for a permanent live or switched live.

2017 is a second facelift mk3 yaris

I take it is a hybrid - If so the 12v Battery lives under the back seat do not connect directly to the Battery

GPS 😕🙃 - looks more like a wireless charger to me DO NOT wire this to an unfused, unswitched live

wire it with the 12V aux socket or on its own switch live fuse or fuse tap if you must

if you are unsure find someone that knows what they are doing

If that's GPS tracker then you probably want it to be alive constantly (so connecting directly to the Battery through the fuse should be fine), yet the device should have mechanism for detecting idle period where the vehicle remains stationary so it can lower the power consumption to prevent discharging the Battery completely

It is a tracking device. See here

From the Meta Systems site...

oh ok, its low current then and needs a perm 12v fused feed, most trackers are just piggybacked off another circuit like the OBD2 port

I have Apple airtag in my cars fitted into rubber pockets (black) and stuck somewhere inconspicuous. They notify me about 10 minutes after I've parked up somewhere or I can find out where they are at anytime in the Apple "Find my" app.

They utilise anyone walking past +/- 5 metres away and piggy-back on their bluetooth to send location to Apple.

An estimated 8.4 million iPhones were sold in the UK in 2023, which is around 23,000 sold every day. There were around 8.6 million iPhones sold in 2022 and a whopping 8.8 million iPhones sold in 2021, so there is a pretty good chance someone walking by will have an iPhone on them and will probably have bluetooth turned on, even if its 50% with bluetooth on, that's 12,000,000 phones sold in the last 36 months listening!
