Solar power panel charger

Hi all, I was told by a toyota car sales man that you can charge your flat Battery with a Solar Power Panel Charger using the car cigarette connector with the ignition off and car locked? CHR 2020 37K miles. After I brought a Solar Power Panel Charger of £40 odd.

It can put some charge on sunny days, other than that is doesn't very little on cloudy days. Have seen a video on YouTube where someone test it for a month, charged a only few Ah in a month with sunny days.

I very much doubt the cigarette lighter connector has a ‘live’ connection with the Battery with the ignition off ….. but I don’t have a CHR to verify.

Certainly in the Yaris Cross the cigarette lighter connector is off when the ignition is off. I have a solar powered, (AA), charger, that uses the OBD socket, so the car can be left locked and it will get 'some' charge.

I can confirm the cigarette lighter socket is Off when the ignition is off. In order to use the charger inside the car, you would need to connect it to the OBD port, or directly to the Battery. My solar chard has an OBD port connector, as well as the

The one sold by Toyota for around £90 uses the OBD socket as others have said, the accessory socket is not live with the car off.

Few cars have a live cigarette lighter socket.  Ford is the only one I was aware of.  Once, on a tour of India, I had a dodgy phone Battery that needed constant charging.  Only once was I able to get it charged when I was in a Ford.

If you were told that by the salesman AND he sold you the charger, either get your money back or demand he makes good on his advice.
