I know there was a recent post about clutch adjustment, but my question is slightly different.

The clutch was replaced approx 4 months ago by a friend of my son's who no longer lives in the area. The clutch has been performing well without any problems.

However, it would appear that the clutch needs a little adjustment.

I have started to notice that the clutch is not disengaging fully when the pedal is all the way to the floor. So some adjustment appears to be necessary.

I am aware of how to adjust the clutch using the plastic "nut" on the outer sheath of the clutch cable, however, I think this would simply raise the pedal, which is already quite high, in my opinion.

There is also  a screwed "fitting", which is cross shaped, on the end of the cable, which would change the effective length of the cable.

Is there an adjustment procedure that takes into account adjustments to both these points to give the best possible solution.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Adjustment is on top of the gearbox with the cross shaped nut on the clutch fork

Adjustment is normally done using the large plastic nut at the cable bracket, but as you rightly say, there is also an adjustment using the cross shaped nut also. So my question is how to set up both adjustments correctly ?

The free play is done by the outer sleeve the inner cable adjusts the clutch

I do not have the mk1 diagram to hand atm

Thank you for this, it basically answers my question. I haven't previously found anything on line relating to adjustment using the cruciform nut.

So yesterday, I adjusted the clutch using the nut, I think I tightened it by 3 turns, which given the thread pitch, is not that much. This morning it was driving perfectly, with smooth gear changes. After about half an hour it reverted to the way it was....so I need to take another look, and see if another few turns makes a difference.
