Beep and red flash on ino screen

Still getting used to the various bits of technology on my wifes 67 yaris new to us. The other day thewre was a beep and the driver info screen behind the wheel flashed red very briefly but so quick I did not see the message. Any ideas what tis may be?

I cannot get over the rough ride on this car. We had a 2003 Yaris and i do not recall it being such an agricultiral ride. Yes I know it is a small car but it must surely be that it is not only me who thinks the ride is poor. I went on a 90 mile trip yesterday and the road noise above 65 is appalling.

A good job she like the car for town driving, Devon single track roads and the light steering. I was going to sell the Avensis as we do not need 2 cars but I cannot live with the Yaris so the Avensis lives on!

It could well be the pre-collision warning. I had it a few weeks back when a car braked in front of me - the 'big red warning' is on the screen for just a split second and you think "what was that?"

Yeah, I only knew what it was because it flashed up on the HUD - If I didn't have the HUD I would have no idea what it was as who's going to look down at the dash while trying to avoid a collision??

It's a really silly oversight, especially since the car doesn't store the messages so you can see what they were later, despite there being a whole section in the MFD for status messages!

Tyres? Maybe some softer ones would help? Cross-climates or.........

The Mk1 and Mk2 had a much softer ride than the Mk3 - Toyota were trying to appeal to a younger market with the Mk3, and tried to improve the handling and make the car less rolypoly, but sadly they didn't really understand suspension very well back then and just made it stiffer, which made the ride noticeably harder.

That said, someone said that was only on the earlier ones and the later Mk3s reverted to a more compliant suspension so not sure as, being a 2017 model, I would have thought yours would have the softer suspension :confused1: I don't know how accurate that information is though as it's just hear-say...

That's rather the point though. If you are already avoiding it's irrelevant ... but if you are looking at the pretty person on the pavement or busy on social media it might just get your attention back where it should be. (Though I suspect if it was a real situation it'll have slammed the brakes on before you've had time to actually do anything.)

I find it usually trigers from parked cars on the edge of the road or on the fringes of a rounderbout.

It goes off as it realises you have moved position without slaming on the brakes.

The pre-crash warning sensitivity on the Mk3 can be adjusted (3 settings IIRC). The button is within the bank of 3 just above the bonnet release and has a graphic of a car about to hit another.

That's kinda my point - It's more the frantic beeping that gets your attention - The dash alert is a pointless extra distraction that would draw your attention AWAY if you actually tried to catch what it said.

But everyone that's experienced it without the HUD *knows* that it's appeared and says something out the corner of their eye, but will have no idea what it says, because by the time it's safe to look down to read it, it'll be long gone as if it had never been there.

The ironic danger is someone might actually try to read it, and end up crashing into the thing it's warning them about

AIUI, the suspension was softened on the MK3 facelift models (from 2014) - the ones with a scowelly face.

I've had this happen a quite few times, just aware of something red in the middle of the screen. Eventually found out it says 'Brake' by watching the screen on a slight corner where it had gone off previously. Big wide road so no risk to not be paying full attention. Never had the car take over yet, so my reactions must still be pretty good despite my age.

You've done well! I've had the AEB trigger a few times in mine (Mostly needlessly, except for a couple times where there was real danger, which is why I can't quite bring myself to turn it off despite the false positives!) and it's not pleasant - It's reassuring the Yaris can stop itself so sharply and violently, but being BLERK!'d hard into the seatbelt like that is not something I want to get used to!

Had a 2016, did not find the ride hard. Didn't like the handling around bends, body leans, doesn't help with small tyres 175-185mm. Didn't have PCS on this.

MK4 have PCS, seen it once and understood it, never need to look at it again.
