Afternoon Guys and Gals,

I've just received my 1st tax renewal reminder @ £170 on my 2022 Excel 2WD, list price OTR was just over £40k, am I missing something as I was expecting £560?

You mention OTR and list price in the same context. As far as I know, the tax band is based on list price on the day of (or day before) registration, including any "fitted" extras. However I believe it excludes other costs (e.g. delivery, registration and first year tax) that would make up the OTR price. Maybe you're lucky and the list price was actually just under and the add on costs just took it over.It should tell you on the front page of your v5 (log book) under special notes if the additional premium applies.

You can put you v5 number in the DVLA site to check your tax band here https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/EnterV5C?locale=en but I doubt it's going to tell you anything different as the the reminder will be linked to the same database.

Enjoy spending your unexpected £390 bonus!

First year tax band heavily depends on the engine size / co2 emissions, after that there's only three bands - petrol, electric, alternative (eg hybrid)

Edit to add: for cars up to and including £40k list price, which yours was!

The List (P11d value) upon which the extra tax would become payable was £38,375.00 plus the cost any factory fitted options that you specified. So, you had £1,625 'headroom' for the extras. As long as you didn't go for the premium pack you may well be OK ... 😉

Didn't realise that Thomas, I thought the tax band was solely dependent on the OTR price of the vehicle.

Thanks all for your comments. My car was pre-registered in December 22 and I bought it March 23.  I understand the CO2 implications for tax bands but was a little confused as to the actual list price of the car at first registration, hence the question.  DVLA site confirms £170, V10 does not mention anything in special notes,  so I'll go with the P11 value mentioned and enjoy the unexpected bonus🥳

According to the Toyota price list, the List price includes the delivery charge and number plate allowance.
