Wasn’t a Chinese manufacturer developing battery swap stations, the idea being that you rolled up to one of these stations and the complete battery was swapped out in about the same time it took to fuel an ice car, all done automatically…

You mean Battery exchange?

The decades old technology that large forklift fleet operators our now ditching in favour of lithium ion Battery or hydrogen fuel cell technology instead.

One question - what happens when the Battery exchange cart breaks down while your vehicle has its battery removed?

One problem with an EV, you just got home, car battery low but now on charge.  Phone call, gotta rush out ‘cos somethings gone wrong but you’re screwed ‘cos only got 30-50 miles of charge. ICE or hybrid is not a problem because fuel is readily available and also quick.

Is it a problem - you just stop off at a rapid charger on your way, same as you would do if you were low on fuel ?

In the town of 25,000 people where I live there are 4 public charge points total and they only put out 15kw sadly.

but we have three petrol stations with around 40 total pumps available.

as it takes 10 times longer to charge an EV than fill a petrol car we should have 400 ultra fast EV chargers if things were to be the same.  It’s the same on the motorway services, they haven’t even met the goal of 6 chargers, when it should have been 160-200 chargers.

sadly I have doubts now about the number of public ultra fast chargers ever reaching the level we need. If they do, then an EV is no problem.
