New Yaris question

Hi I recently bought a new yaris, mytoyota account shows it arrived at our dealer and says Yaris24, a staff told my partner on the phone it is a 24 plate.

then I called them again (since i missed the call) and the other sales told me if I get the car in March then it will guarantee it is a 24 plate. But now it is a 22/23 plate.

i am confused why both of them said differently to me and my partner. And if I am picking my car in Mar, then what about linked car that shows on mytoyota?

the delivery date is 2 months earlier than the expected delivery time, nothing bad but just felt surprised

i might be very stupid here since this my very first car in my life and I am confused about the dealer and afraid that they will use my car as a demo and let others ride on it. May i know if the dealer is lying to me ?

The '24' may relate to the model year (ie. the latest specification) which is different to the registration date which legally determines what year the car is.

Think you need to clarify with the dealer when the car will be first registered. The year identifier changes in March and September each year. If first registered in February it will be a 73 registration and if first registered in March it will be a 24 registration.

Whether it is a 73 or 24 registered vehicle, legally it will still be registered in 2024, and legally will be a 2024 vehicle.

If you want it to be a 24 plate then wait until march, if you want it now it will be 73 plate. Speak to the dealer whichever you decide.

Ensure that you get the 24 registration plate , which comes out on 1 March...if it's registered before 1 March....it will have a 23 registration number....and when you sell it ...it will be worth a little less money.

It'll be a 73 plate if registered Feb.

Ultimately it's up to the dealer when they register the car but no harm in asking for a 24 plate.

Car registered on a 73 plate worth less than a 24 plate?  It's not as straightforward as that. All depends on how the OP is financing the car. If it's by cash then yes ( although that depends on any discounts being offered ) but if the car is being funded by finance such as PCP, then those differences should be reflected in the GFV / baloon payment.

I'm not up to speed on current finance deals or when the car was ordered but their may be T&C in place regarding the amount of the contribution, therefore, potentially a car registered in Feb would cost less than a car registered in March.

It's a complicated business working out what's best.

I doubt that.  It will be worth less by its age rather than registration.

Quite obviously it would be worth less....as it is perceived as an older car...we all do it...especially the dealers.

Utter tosh......which one would you buy, in a line-up....the 73 or the 24 plate.....the age and the plate do have an effect on the price.

If they were brand new with no miles, same model and same colour and same price, probably the 24.  When you come to trade it in, no difference.

Don.. you're living in dream land....the dealers have been doing this, to us buyers for years, they will use any excuse to devalue your car....the older registration is a major component of their calculations....by year and also what is on the registration plate.

What have the dealers been “doing to you”?   You pay the same if you buy it new on the last day of February as you do on the first day of March.  If you get a value of a three year old one, the difference between a February and March on won’t be a bigger change than a January and a February or a March and an April.  That is hypothetical on the assumption the mileage are proportionate.  I can absolutely guarantee that if they walk round a February 2020 Yaris that has been properly looked after, it will bring a bigger trade in than a same model and mileage newer reg that has, like many, been used as a transport tool.

I never mentioned buying a new car....this is quite obviously about the second-hand value....the older registration will attract , on a like for like car....a lower price !

But...also quite interestingly ...you can often get a bigger discount, just before a registration year change.

My dealer, works with me and my Carwow printout.

We can go round in circles all day.  If I order with carwow discount today, the price is agreed regardless of when it will be delivered - August the 31st or September on a new plate.  My example above is after 3 years.  It makes no difference between a pre and post change day. So for example a 18 plate Yaris registered on February 28th won’t be any worse value the an identical one registered on a 68 a day later.  The 18 will be worth more if it is in better condition.  In other words, waiting for the new registration in 2018 won’t have helped.

Rubbish....the newer the registration plate....the more that it's worth, on a like for like car....simples

Well, like for like then the newer one will be worth a bit more, but that on its own is not a very big factor on the used market - Mileage is the biggest 'normal' factor that affects price ('abnormal' factors being things like if it's a writeoff  ), and condition being the next.

Which is ironic as I've learned not to buy cars with abnormally low mileages, especially diesels, as they tend to have more problems!!

No need to get huffy and Cyker only wants to know how fast a car will go around London so that doesn’t mean its definitive.  I stand by my original comment that in three years time or whenever he comes to trade it, waiting another two weeks for the next registration won’t make any difference.  It will show up as a 2024 Yaris.  There is often a bit of status in having the next reg on new reg day but not like it used to once a year in August.  It is done twice a year to stop that.  It will make a difference if it is a very good condition car.
