Twice now the central locking has not worked. On both occasions I tried the door handle locking and the key fob and neither worked. Today after driving home the central locking worked again. With our Octavia, if I had a fault, I could reboot the head unit, which fixed the problem. Is there a similar procedure for the Corolla? Thanks David

Have you been driving alot of short distances lately? Could be the 12 volt Battery losing it's charge.

The resting voltage for the 12 volt Battery is 14v.

Resting voltage for a 12v lead acid is around 12.8 when fully charged.

Maximum charging voltage is 14.4

put a new Battery in the fob

A correction. The resting voltage is 12v. I checked it with the ignition on and read 14v, but with the accessory option only, it was 12v. Central locking working at present.

14 volts with engine running is OK. If it was just ignition on then I suspect your meter is faulty.

12 volts is low. It may be that it has been a while since it has run but it may also be a weak Battery. Only you know the situation when the voltage was measured.

The central locking failed again today. It's booked in to the dealer next Wednesday. I was so pi**ed off by the recurring faults with our Octavia hybrid, which I put up with but never rejected, that this time if the fault cannot be cleared I'll reject the Corolla. A shame becasue everything else worked right from the start, unlike our Skoda.

Do you park near a radio transmitter tower? It can affect the remote entry systems on some cars.

If not, perhaps it's the key fob Battery. Have you tried the second remote key instead incase it's the fob?

I'd definitely chose a Corolla over an Octavia - I've just seen someone online who has a 2019 corolla on 200,000 miles with no repairs and still original brake pads.

The locking has failed three times: the first was 40 miles from home and the other two were local. I'm surprised if the fob Battery is losing charge as the car is only 9 weeks old. Yesterday, when I used the fob, the mirrors started to close, then after a beep they went fully open again. So the car is receiving a signal. It may have been a coincidence, but after I'd folded the mirrors using the button on the driver's door, the central locking worked again using the touch control on the door handle.

I would check the fob Battery. It is easy and cheap and the most common fault with remotes. It doesn't make sense not to exclude it from the diagnosis.

Car age has little bearing on fob Battery age.

Can you give us some info on the amount of journey time you are doing. Try putting car into 'Ready Mode' for an hour and see what happens. I still think it's a failing 12v Battery. As already mentioned try the spare key fob or put a new Battery in them. It's a process of elimination. The age of the car means nothing, but driving habits do when it comes to that 12v Battery especially in cold weather.
