Morning, I rubbed mine down when I bought the car, with a wire brush, then used a 'Rustcure' product, then painted it with a good Black paint (like Hammerite). Worked a treat, took a few hours but almost 3 years later, still looking good.

I recently bought an Avensis petrol from 2015,

only the rear subframe has a little too much rust,

I will dismantle this soon, then I can have it sandblasted and paint it again

Does anyone have a step-by-step plan on how to get started?

Hi,

if your spending money on an old part sand blasting, spraying, ect , I would suggest you but new parts. I had a similar issue and put on new parts. I bought the replacements from AUTODOC on internet. I was impressed by the quality and fitment.
never regretted it. The bushes will properly be worn too.

best wishes

peter

I had my trusted local mechanic fit them.

Quick clean unserneath, remove any flaky rust then apply Lanoguard. Do this yearly.  Works well

Best rust treatment is no treatment.
Only regular car washes and avoid driving during cold days when salt been thrown on the roads, if possible.  If not try to wash off the salt thoroughly under side. Nothing can protect cars against salt and grit and whoever came with this stupid idea I don’t know but current people in charge should see the negatives are far greater than any help and this needs to be banned all around the world. Salt and grit only destroy cars and infrastructure costing billions. Help =0

Some wax based product is way better then hammerite on not ideal surfaces. If I would do it by myself then I would use 1. layer Dinitrol ML penetrant, 2. layer Dinitrol 4941 or 3125HS.

I let Krown to treat my car cavities and bottom twice (2020 and 2024), but we have longer winter (+ more salt on roads) than in UK (and I plan to keep this car for next 10 years also).

problem with putting wax oil under our cars in the uk is that when our cars is up for the mot again the car needs washed under it again so the wax gets washed off

Really? You have to wash car bottom before mot? Do you have special car washes for this?

Sorry for the late reply, been away from home. I use Jenolite Rust Converter, let it 'go off' for an hour or so, then any good quality (Hammerite) type paint on top.
