Bought my corolla about 2 weeks ago and did some digging about getting android auto and found that you can get the update for £150 from any Toyota dealer but after I've booked it in they came back and quoted me an extra £311 for the infotainment update before the android auto update that they say is required. Anyone come across this or are they trying to upsell?

I would say they're trying to fleece you. Best thing is probably email Toyota customer relations and get it in writing from the what the cost is and take it to the dealer.

When I had my Corolla (2019 model) I managed to find the update file my self and stick it on a USB stick and do the update my self. Its not a hard or time consuming process so I guess its the older 'stealership' rip off going on.

The Android Auto/Apple carplay update was designed to be dealer fit due to the risk of bricking the head unit - which at the time did happen to a couple of members who tried to install the update themselves and this then wasn't covered under warranty.

Back in 2020 the standalone update was £120 for the Corolla, but costs will have increased since then.

Think you need to get more info as regards what this other update is, and then go to Toyota Customer Services to query the need for this and the cost.

Yeah what baffles my mind is that this was a retrofit designed for the 2019 models only right? Cars after that year came with it... Their reasoning was that the android auto update wouldn't work on the current software version and that they needed to purchase an update key for the maps so I would have to purchase their new maps software which I don't want to use anyway.

I had a similar thing - they needed to lots of updates to the system before they could apply the Android Auto itself. It was a bit of a long-drawn out saga for me with multiple bookings into the dealership and it taking longer than expected to get hold of the thing from Toyota, but I didn't get charged any extra for the background updates.

what is your current mcu, dcu version and model?

Oof, I definitely wouldn't be paying that. Mine has AA but I don't use it. I think I've plugged it in once in 2 years. It's too much of a faff personally.

My local dealership quoted £150 for aa. But when it was in workshop they said it needed navigation upgrade an extra £230. Any one know where I can get software

Keith, what has happened is your car is over the 3-year subscription period so the £230 probably represents a new map subscription.

That your car needs the AA update suggests the car is pre-mid 2020 original owner chose not to pay for the AA update when it was introduced.

Clearly, once you have AA installed you won't need up to date Toyota mapping.  Is the dealer saying you have to have the map update before they can install the AA update?

To apply the ACP/AA retrofit the installed map set had to greater than 2018v1 and the headunit (DCU ) software has to be equal/greater than 1011 which back in 2020 was not an issue a map updates were free for 3 years so the map could be updated at no cost then the retrofit software applied.

Access to the latest map version is not an issue however you have to purchase a license key ( part number PW675-00171) which in combination with a device code from your head unit generates an update key to allow the map install the license key plus the retrofit price is the cost here
