Intermittent issue with loud noise and loss of power

Hi all, wondering if you can shed some light on this. Toyota yaris hybrid 2017. It started off just sounding louder than normal and feeling shaky and louder so took it to the dealer. They said no issue so collected it. Drove around for few trips of a few kilometres with no issue. Then got home. Tried to park and it was making loud noises when changing gears. when in drive it was losing power and wouldn't accelerate. Called toyota breakdown assistance and they collected it and took it to garage. The recovery guy was having issues getting started and moving off. Got a call from the garage again today to say no issue and that the sound is "normal"

Something is not right with the car, is it still under warranty. If it has been serviced by the Toyota dealer, then that should carry a warranty.

Hi, Thanks for your response. We bought the car used from toyota dealer about 3 months ago so its in warranty period. We brought the car in twice to the dealer and sent this video and they've said the noise is normal and there is no problem with the car. Just trying to get them to accept there is an issue and wondered if anyone knew what the issue could be.

Aaron, looked at your profile, several Toyota dealers in Dublin and the nearby counties, which one did you buy from. All used Toyota cars bought from Toyota dealerships Carry a years warranty, it’s time to get tough with them ask them to keep the car for a week and drive it to see if they can sort it out and loan you a car while they have it. We have a sale of goods act, and it would be no harm to mention it to them.

Hi Bernard, we are in limerick and only 1 toyota dealer here. The next closest is 30 minutes away. I may give them a call anyway to ask their opinion. Thanks for the advice. Not sure what the issue is but there's definitely something wrong. I'd say it'll be a case of they need to drive it more to see what's happening but they haven't explained to us what they did to try to find the issue other than take it for a drive and "look underneath"

That noise sounds like a sticking calliper on one of the rear brake discs....

I don't know much about cars. When this cause issues like vibrations and noise from the rear of car even when not braking. When shifting from reverse to drive at that time it was also making a lot of the same kind of noise. When we first brought it in to the dealer the day before it was just for the car being noisier and feeling shaky. In between the 2 trips to the dealer though it was driving fine

I think you misunderstand me. What I meant was that one of the callipers is holding a pad too tightly against the brake disc and that noise in your video is exactly how it sounds. Doesn't matter whether you are braking or not, the pad is not moving i.e. the calliper piston is stuck and not moving as it should.

The garage needs to check out your rear brakes both sides.

Definitely sounds like a sticking brake caliper or a foreign object catching the disc shroud....not really a big problem...just sounds it ...due to resonance ?
