Fuel gauge sticks on full then suddenly drops

I noticed recently that after filling up the fuel gauge is sticking at full for a while the suddenly drops to start reading 'normally'.

Did encounter a road that was more of a rough track due to sat nav issue and had to get through horrendous potholes. 

Wondering if I've damaged the sensor?

Mark,  two questions:

Did you fill to first click or second?

Did it indicate slightly over full and not drop until 60 miles or so?

I'm not sure how far exactly but that sounds about right at 60 miles.

In which case that is perfectly normal.
