If you are only doing 4K a year i am  not sure a hybrid is for you, better off getting a non hybrid as you will save money on the outlay for a similar non hybrid car, plus hybrid batteries like regular use to prevent flat battery issues. Just my opinion

I cover 3-4k per year and bought a hybrid purely because I like Toyota hybrids. Arguably it made no financial sense whatsoever, but on the other hand I keep cars for years and I now have them main dealer serviced, so the car will be warrantied for 10 years and the hybrid Battery for 15 years. I've had no flat 12v Battery issues at all.

Agree with everything here. I used to buy a new Citroen (never had any problems) every 3 - 4 years after the 3 year warranty ran out. Bought the Corolla ‘cos I can keep for 10 years plus, I’ll be well into my 80s by then.

1.8L. I have a 2.0L. I love it, but I'm sure a 1.8L would have been just fine too, and of course, cheaper everywhere. It's nice to put your foot down once in a while though.

I agree about the 'financial sense' aspect. Frankly, spending well over 35K, cash in hand, on brand new car and then arguing about fuel economy and efficiency is a little silly. You could buy a 3K banger, or less, something half decent, every 3-4 years, or more even, and win biggly on the financial and risk. If you don't drive that much and just want a shopping trolley, it's hard to argue going the cheap route.

But hey. The Corolla drives itself, and 'should' be good for 10 years plus. And who knows what the motoring landscape will be at that point.
