interesting, thanks

When a pause becomes a wait, use “hold” like it’s a handbrake that automatically switches off when you step on the accelerator. Or else just keep it on the footbrake if you’re only going to be a few seconds. Never go into N. Avoid putting the car into P for park at traffic lights.

so I've had my Swace for about 8 months now and it's been great. I like the whole hybrid driving experience because I've always had old manual gearboxes before so the whole ease of driving is a revelation (I've never even had parking sensors and rear cameras before). I like the power/economy balance and never feel underpowered. The long term economy seems to be about 58 mpg which I think is amazing but I've read that others get more. I've started using the cruise control for going down some of the hills in my area rather than the B function on the shift as that didn't seem to !Removed! the car enough. With the cruise It holds the car at 30 mph though I'm not sure if it uses the brakes to do this or whether it's something to do with charging up the Battery and I've also wondered whether it puts the break lights on when it slows the car. I've kind of got used to all the beeps and honks when driving near my front hedge while parking onto my drive though I have had a couple of 'brake grabs' when the sensors think there's a chance of collision which I thought were unnecessary.

Though it's got loads of gimmicks on it I now think an electric tailgate would have been nice and also I find the dark blue colour quite difficult to wash without leaving stains behind. maybe I just need to wash it and dry it better, please pass on any tips. I also think the radio could be better. I would like a few more pre-set slots and I nicer display. One other thing I've got used to but was a bit disappointed with was the amount of road noise at speed on dual carriageways and motorways. I wonder whether Corollas are quieter and have more sound insulation?

I have said it once ... I will say iy again .... Bullet Polish wax!

CARNAUBA SPRAY WAX

It is a wax spray.  Apply after wash & removing some of the water, apply with one cloth, buff with another panel at a time.  Takes a couple of minutes to do whole car.  Also to wipe plastic trims.  Leaves no white residue, water beads for ages etc.  Used by several auto museums in UK as good on anything from coach enamel to 2-pack etc.

Can also be bought (more econimically) as a concentrate to make 4 (I think) litres.  Available online, from website or Amazon etc.

Ignore 'B' on the gear selector. It's only relevant for very long or very steep hills. If you're driving through the Alps or the Rockies it would be useful but in the UK there aren't many places where it does.

I used to live in Berkhamsted so I know the Hertfordshire area well and I can't think of anywhere around there that would justify the use of 'B' mode.

Road noise all the same between Suzuki and Toyota.
I think these cars have something small but ultra important that is missing or misaligned and let horrible tyre roar enter from the back of the cars. Some sort of rubber seal or metal work seals aren’t out well on because overall the car has really good insulation from outside world, a nice thud when shutting the doors and not much if any at all engine, exhaust or other outside noises but as soon as you start driving and rear tyres roar becomes apparent no very annoying. I did test drive Corolla excel and seriously, it was unacceptable. Driven an Aygo x base model and was much quieter inside even though doors shut sounds like a tin can or like closing doors of a Wartburg .

Not sure if you test drove a duff one or some components missing but my Excel TS is not overly noisy.  It is noisier than a saloon due to reduced thickness of shelving above the boot etc but it is no worse than many other estates i have owned.

Yes, I use the brake hold button too. The car is supposed to have hill hold assist, but it doesn't work, so I use the brake hold button on a hill nearby.

On previous cars, you pressed the brake harder after you stopped and it engaged hill start assist but this doesn't seem to work on the Corolla.

It's also useful in traffic as well.

Mine has hill hold assist... Only works for a few seconds after releasing brake pedal but you only release when your about to pull off anyway.

Always seemed random as to if the hill hold assist worked. There is a BP where the exit is on a slope and sometimes it worked sometimes not. New Corolla behaves in exactly the same way. 2018 Auris had no brake hold button and always worked automatically and consistently.

Brake hold button working on both as expected.

My hill hold assist doesn’t work on my Corolla, so I have to use the brake hold button instead.

On cars I’ve had where it worked, you came to a stop and then pressed the brake pedal a bit harder. That activated hill hold and you would get a light on the dash.

mine rolls back on steepish hills unless I use the brake hold button.

I could be wrong but I'm fairly certain Brake Hold replaces the Hill Hold Assist, so a car will have one or the other, but not both!

I thought same... fully manual on pre facelift auris, fully auto on 2018 auris, only noticed it doing it on Corolla in some situations and always thought manual only. OH's Yaris premier is the same.

They have both

I think my '19 has both. My drive slopes down somewhat and after getting it out of the garage something keeps it stationary if I have to pause and there's a definite release (with a slight accompanying creak) when I apply power.

I don't usually remember to activate brake hold until I've driven off (one of my pet peeves - why can't it just default to on?).

There seems to be a bit of variety in how they operate.

My auris 2014 you have to push the brake pedal hard and the car then beeps and a light flashes until it releases (I like this)!

My avensis 2017 sometimes works sometimes doesn't and with no light or noise you're not sure until you take your foot off the pedal. Softer presses work better than pressing the pedal hard (but too soft and it doesn't come on). Push the avensis brake pedal hard and the assist system won't work.

Obviously the corolla system is likely to be different to both but thought I'd highlight the inconsistency that may exist.
