Loss of main guage dimming

Hello all. 

I have fitted a JVC head unit in a 2007 Auris. I didn't use a harness like a cheepscate I just cut the wires.  The stereo is working fine but the centre dash has stopped illuminating and the main display no longer dims when the lights are turned on. It was originally a cd stereo with 3 plugs.

Has anyone any idea of how to solve these problems.

sounds like a blown fuse  (poss 15 amp dome fuse) caused by a shorted illumination wire, i assume you have either used crimps or soldered the wires or have you just twisted them together and wrapped them in masking tape

less said about the cut plugs the better as the adapters are dirt cheap and easily available

There is an ILLUM+ signal wire which dims the head unit and other displays, when lights are turned on. Maybe you accidentally grounded it to earth?
