2005 Avensis Verso D4D replace or clean turbo diy?

Hi I am a member of the P1251 club.
The turbo VNT actuator is stiff. I lubed it and it got better at first but now it is really sticky.
Want to take the turbo out and clean it. On a regular Avensis I could do it fairly easy but on the Verso there is not much space.
Garage says engine needs to come down, full day job.
If so I might as well replace the turbo because the work cost will be high.
Going to do some disassembly tomorrow. Do you think the turbo can come out upwards without  lot of suffering? 🙂
