Check engine light if T battery bad?

Owner of 8 year old aurus.

I know batey is warranteed for 15vyears. If yearly checked by Toyota.

Does the check engine light come on if the traction Battery fails?

I ask cos if it didn't the car would pass the MOT with a failed Battery wouldn't it?

 

I also read somewhere that people remove the Battery and it just becomes a normal petrol car, is that true?

Hi Michael, 

The traction Battery is warranted for 15 years indeed,  if the car is serviced  within Toyota dealer network and not been used as taxi or other trade. 
If the Battery failed or developed a fault or needs cooling fan cleaning ( replacing filter) it will trigger a warning ⚠️ lights and messages on the dashboard.
In cases where battery failure happened the engine management light will also be ON along with traction control light and brake system light. The engine will be running constantly, the car will drive rough and not recommended to use it for long time. Just to get to your destination if not too far. 
In any Toyota hybrid if the traction Battery failed the car will become  impossible to drive, the high voltage battery is needed to start engine and to control the speed of the car. No battery power no car.
