Extra tyre pressure whilst towing

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi,

I have a 2021 Rav4 HEV AWD and have read in the Online Manual that all 4 tyres should have an extra 3psi added whilst towing. I tow a 1500kg caravan.

Who actually does this every time they tow?

Many thanks,

Tim

Every sensible person who reads the manual and takes the advice given ... 🙂

If you tow frequently, and don't want to be messing with tyre pressures, just leave them at +3 psi and accept a slightly firmer ride (and better fuel economy).

I personally find with my PHEV running on Continental all season tyres is better set slightly below the full load pressure. You may need a bit of trial and error to assess what works best for your particular outfit. However unlike some, I simply leave the tyres at that pressure all the time. I have seen caravanners on site who do literally adjust the pressures before and after each tow…..

I leave mine at 35/36 psi, all year round.
