Grumbling ABS!

Does anyone have an issue with grumbling (best noise/way to describe it) with their ABS? No issue stopping at speed, only when crawling/very slow and lightly tapping break. Tried blowing out break pads etc. Took to my local BSG who we always use. He said if it stops, don't worry about it. Old car thing!

Car: AVENSIS T3 S D-4D 2006

My 2007 Avensis does the same - has done for a couple of years.  Doesn't seem to be getting any worse, and no issue at MOT.

My guess is that at close to zero mph one of the wheel speed sensors is incorrectly reading zero, causing the ABS to kick in because it thinks the wheel has locked up.  Perhaps corrosion on the ABS ring or the sensor itself.

Not planning to do anything about it unless it gets worse.

It's been happening for over a year and flew through the MOT with no issues. It's just really annoying and would love to be able to sort a fix for it.

If I did want to get it to stop, what are my options?

I think the only option is to take out ABS sensor and clean it including the abs ring . Problem is you’ll most probably break the bolt holding it in and make things worse 🤔😂

I had the same issue for years. Meloned is correct, attempting to remove the sensor can cause the bolt to snap so you would need to drill it out. I my case it's probably the ABS ring rather than the sensor, which is possible to replace but it's not easy. The costs for the ring is about £10 online. Costs for labor - I don't know if the garages would even take such a job on. For them is easier to replace the wheel hub assembly which comes with part warranty etc.
