Relax Warranty

If your car has been serviced all it's life by Toyota is it automatically under the relax warranty and if so, if you have just had the car serviced and sold it does the relax warranty go with the car to the new owner, eg I trade car in after the service so whoever sells the car does it go with the 12mth relax warranty, hence that dealer has nothing to worry about.????

Transferability of Toyota Relax

Toyota Relax is transferable to subsequent owners of the vehicle but not transferable to another vehicle. Toyota Relax follows the vehicle not the customer, provided that the maximum mileage count and/or Toyota Relax period have not been exceeded.

Yes, the Toyota Relax warranty is transferable to the new owner if the car meets the eligibility criteria at the time of sale. This means that even if you trade your car in after a service and it qualifies for the warranty, the new owner will benefit from the remaining coverage until the next scheduled service (typically 12 months or 15,000 km, whichever comes first).

Therefore, the dealer you trade your car to wouldn't have to worry about potential warranty repairs, as the new owner would have the remaining Relax coverage.😄

I thought so, I've been looking for a CH-r with full Toyota history but it's proving difficult so far, every 4yr old I'm finding is part history or not Toyota. So if I've got this right, if Heaven forbid I bought a car from Evans Halshaw and it had just been serviced by Toyota before that person traded it in, it would have 3mths from Evans but a 12mth warranty from Toyota

I'm toying with the idea of trading my 2014 CT200 in with 47k miles, which I'm going to get serviced before it's due to get the extra year warranty, I needed to know about the relax as a selling point, it's not definite as I like the car but it's too low for the wife now, what's the highest mileage you can get to with the relax warranty.

The Relax warranty covers cars up to 10 years old or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

A 4 year old Toyota would have the remainder of the 5 year/100,000 mile new car warranty. It wouldn't be eligible for Relax until near expiry of the new car warranty.

So your saying the relax warranty kicks in after the 5yrs is up and it's been serviced by Toyota, if you still get it serviced at Toyota after that.

Just a thought, what if I bought a 4yr old Toyota, what had had the last 2 services at a none Toyota garage, can you still get the relax warranty if you went back to Toyota on it's 5th birthday.

Relax is a service generated extended warranty, which takes effect when the new car warranty is either near to expiry or has expired. A 4 year old Toyota will have the remainder of the new car warranty - ie. the previous 5 year/100,000 mile new car warranty. 

If a Toyota is serviced by a Toyota dealer at either of the above two points, and it is still within the Relax limits, the service will generate the Relax warranty.

If the last two services were done according to Toyota's service schedule, even though by a non-Toyota garage, the new car warranty should still be valid. 

In the above scenario, if the car is serviced by a Toyota dealer on the car's 5th birthday, it would still be eligible for Relax, but if any repairs are required to parts covered under Relax, these may need to be repaired at your cost before Relax is activated.

In that case wouldn't it be best to buy the 5yr old car after the previous owner after had had it serviced for the relax cover to start.

To be honest, I cannot see that most previous owners would service a car before selling it.

If you're buying a 5 year old car from a Toyota dealer, I would expect them to service it as part of the deal.

It's for that reason I can't understand why none Toyota dealers (Carshop, Evans, Cazoo )ask top money for a car that has limited history, if you buy a car with full main dealer history, then you would expect that premium.
