Today I travelled from a lonely little town in South LIncs called Spalding to Fenlands Airfield not far from Holbeach for lunch with friends so I dialled into my Waze  nav app on my iPhone simply because the journey to the airfield was simply a bit  convoluted this resulted in  the outward journey being a complete success.

After lunch we decided to go home using a more simple route utilising the car  sat nav  and that's when things went spectacularly wrong. Initially after we input the location and started off with my iphone being disconnected , the map on the car display showed our intended route etc about 1/2 mile up the road it  froze for the rest of the journey with me having to resort back to the Waze to get home.

I have not experienced this before and have used the car sat nav without any problems so far. If my iPhone picked up wifi in a remote location and operated Waze what happened to the Toyota's satnav ? grateful for any suggestions ?

Hi Louie,

It can be really annoying to have your car's sat nav freeze, especially after a good experience with Waze. There are a number of reasons why this can happen.
The most likely culprit could be a temporary software glitch with your Toyota's sat nav system. These glitches can happen occasionally on any device. Less likely, outdated map data in your car's system could lead to the system getting confused and freezing, especially if it encounters a new road or change in the area.Though unlikely given your iPhone picked up Wi-Fi, any form of signal interference, like passing through an area with strong radio signals, could have briefly disrupted the car's sat nav system.

If it happens again try restarting your car as it can sometimes clear up temporary glitches in the system, similar to restarting a computer.

I would also check to see if any map updates are available. 😄

Restart should fix it, just a glitch, happens sometimes.

Well, the title of this post is Corolla Excel satnav no workie ! I, today, had a case of Corolla Excel satnav no findie ! Heathrow airport, terminal 4 long stay car park. No matter what I input, apparently it doesn't exist.

Tried the old Tomtom, satnav, not drums and it found it immediately.

Yeah it's a bit poor with places unless you have a data connection for it. 'Postcode + house' number is usually okay but 'place name' not so much.

These days I use Google Maps because I didn't want to pay for updates to the in car map but a week ago there was a problem leaving my estate so I had to take an unusual exit. For safety's sake I decided to use the sat nav.

The first problem was that voice control was pathetic.

Me:Navigate to Rye Hill Golf Club

Car:What number Delphi Street?

Me:Navigate to Rye Hill Golf Club

Car:I don't understand.

So I pulled over and tried a manual search. No good. Car apparently knows nothing about Rye Hill Golf Club.

So I dug my phone out of my pocket, connected it and launched Google Maps. After typing 'Rye H' into the search box it suggested Rye Hill Golf Club. So that was all right 😀
