Hi!

I have noticed today on my 03 Corolla that no washer fluid comes out of the rear windscreen. It's working at the front fine and the tank fluid level is healthy. I had a little gentle nosy around with a pin to see if any moss or dirt was blocking the fluid exit point but there was nothing. I'm now a little unsure what to try next. Suggestions would be appreciated.

Could be the 3 way valve that splits the feed to the front and rear nozzles is blocked. It's a common thing that happens. Depending where the 3 way valve is, it's a simple and cheap fix to buy a new valve.

My neighbour had a mouse gnaw through the pipe causing a leak. Garage said it was quite common???

Also check your carpets for wet/dampness. Although not a Toyota my wife's car had the same problem. The passenger side front footwell was soaking wet, after investigation the pipe to the rear washer had split and every time the pump was activated it was just pumping the washer fluid into the car footwell.

Thanks for this suggestion. Where might I begin to look to see where this 3 way valve is? Near where the washer fluid intake is? (I'm far from the world's most accomplished mechanic!)

Carpets are dry so I think I can rule out that but thanks for the suggestion.

I may be barking up the wrong tree here as looking for info on the web it could be more involved than I first stated. My suggestion would be to get hold of a Haines workshop manual for your make of car and see exactly how the washer system works and go from there. Sorry. Someone on this forum may get back to you with a better idea.

Hi,

Yes , its detailed in the Haynes manual  - the revervoir is located under the front bumper which they say has to be removed to gain access.

( wonder if you can access it easier by removing the wheel arch liner or undertray ? )

There are two separate pumps, so the first thing to check is can you hear the rear pump running.

Unless you have recently done something to trap the hose to the rear, its probably a defective or blocked pump ..?

The manual also states that the actual jet outlets contain a one way valve to stop the fluid running back, seems they can also block up as well as the actual jet outlet.

The rear jet  is shown to be accessed / released via the high level brake light cavity.

To test you need to try and blow through the jet/valve.
