Front Plate Holder Removal

I'll be picking up my new [to me] Corolla on Tuesday and looking forward to it. 

Shortly after I'll be fitting my personal registration to it, which is 5 digits long. Where possible I like to fit a smaller plate that is still legal but often can't do this on cars where the number plate recess is sized for a full sized plate.

Based on photos, it looks like the plate holder on the Corolla may be attached to the grill, does anyone know if it's removable? 

On this reddit post I noticed the plate holder isn't there, but then on this website I see someone has applied a short vinyl plate to the original holder which is the look I'm trying to avoid.

Appreciate any thoughts. No drama to fit a full sized plate if I need to.

Could you not use a different font to the lettering that could 'stretch and fill' the space of a normal plate?

I think that the actual number plate is fixed to a 'carrier' of some sort which is in itself fitted to the grill.
You might be able to remove the carrier to fix your plate directly to the grill itself, but it would end up curved the same as the grill - depending on how you attached it.

It forms part of the grille, so cannot be removed. There is only one "legal" font so cannot be stretched as such, but there are people that make smaller plates, It is made to fit a standard oblong plate, I would stick to that in all honesty

Good idea Bob! Unfortunately based on this photo from the inside of the bumper - it looks like the surround goes all the way through rather than resting on the grill/mesh.

There are a few types of grille designs, you will better know once you get the car

I picked the car up last night, unfortunately the plate mount is one with the grill/mesh. No big deal. 🙂
