Greetings all:

1.8l petrol 17 plate: 78k mileage: Bought May 2023 @ 66k.

Pretty certain clutch starting to slip (lower gear, foot down, going up hill, rev counter climbing faster than speedo...).  Otherwise everything fine.  Recent service & MoT.

Mr T quoting £1.6k.  Awaiting response from "Mr Clutch".

Any suggestions for any Toyota specialists in Berkshire area, views on Mr Clutch or other suggestions please?? (I'm 76, not that mobile so DiY or grappling under car not an option...)

Best regards & thanks in advance.

Hi Philip, You should give other Toyota dealers service a call to get an idea of what they will charge to compare quotes.

ClickMechanic is a service that connects you with mobile mechanics who can come to your home or work to fix your car. They have a network of mechanics in the Berkshire area, including some who specialize in Toyotas. You can get quotes online before booking.

While not a Toyota specialist, garages with good reputations can often handle clutch replacements. Reading on Approved Garages shows options like Pangbourne Garage or The Car Bar Service Centre Ltd in the Reading area. These listings have reviews to help you choose.Hope this helps.

Also contact a local mechanic and ask for a quote, usually they are better priced than Mr clutch and Toyota.

I went a local garage when I had my clutch replaced. It is not cheap, but so long as the job is done properly it should be no problem.

One guy I follow is Kevin Albert Williams a mobile clutch fitter who covers your area. Try get a quote from him - https://www.williamsmobileclutch.co.uk/

I remembered that I paid about £300 for the flywheel and clutch kit (LUK) and paid £350 for my local mechanic to fit it to my diesel Verso. Toyota quoted something like £1500 just for the clutch.....

Phillip, my MiL is clutch rider.  As far as we can determine, the repair to her Nissan Micra (57 plate) was expensive but IRO £600 at her regular garage.

MrT will have a nice comfy chair, a newspaper, and 'free' coffee, together with the opportunity to drool over new models in the warmth.

Worth £1,000? 😁
