So some of you may remember that my first MoT resulted in an advisory that there was a bit of vibration under braking or some such. This time around I followed the advice given here and the night before did a bit of harsh braking when the road was clear.

Much to my surprise the second MoT was a pass with no comment on Monday.

However I was a little bit irked by the tester not putting things back the way they found them:

  • Seat back was one notch higher. It makes a difference both to comfort and your instinctive feel for where the pedals are.
  • A/C was set independently with passenger at 21c and driver at 23c. I prefer 19.5c for both.
  • Both front seat belts were clipped in.
  • Auto main beam was off. Okay so it's a bit naff but I do still prefer to have it enabled. If nothing else it's a safety net in case I forget.
  • The car was clean (😁).

I understand that they need to test things but is it really that difficult for them to put things back the way they left them.

Good to see the old Italian tuneup works and you got the car straight through. Brakes really do fare best when used hard on a fairly regular basis.

I know what you mean about how they return the cars. Many also do this thing where they leave all seatbelts in the car done up. HVAC on full cold and recirculating. Weird.

Don't forget radio switched off, steering wheel angle and reach changed

Hi Andrue, next time have a word with the service manager when you hand the keys in and give him a piece of paper with any settings or requirements that you would like put back that you prefer. If it hasn't been done when you come to pay the bill tell him that you would like these done before you pay. Guarantee he will either get someone to do it or he will do it himself. The power of money

For many cars I’ve had, they always turn off the climate control completely when the car is in - I don’t know why, it should be running as it’s normally always on.

Oh, that’s annoying experience.
Thankfully  the place I usually go for MOT the tester doesn’t change anything and they return the car as it was given to them.

If the MOT tester is shorter/taller than you, they'll usually adjust the driver's seat in order to control the vehicle safely. I'd rather they do that instead of losing control of the vehicle or crashing it in the workshop. It doesn't take long to put things back the way they were. The most important thing for me is a 1st time PASS.

Not too bad as long as they put a cover on the seat and the drivers carpet, and don't cover the steering wheel and gear knob, and the handbrake lever with grease.

I usually go to one of those we only MOT places, the testers vary about a bit, I think they may be freelance pulled in when needed, some put the covers on, some don't.

The only thing that really annoys me is if my sound mixer settings for the 100 amp boombox has been fiddled with.
