My Prius+ 2012 makes sizzling noise from rear driverside wheel area but only when road is wet. It sounds a bit like water sizzling on a hot metal surface.

Does anyone know what this could be.

Hi

you can check your disc brakes temperature. If you have faulty brakes and water finds it’s way into the diss and they are hot this is what happens , sizzling noises as water evaporates from the heat. Normal brake temperature from 9-40C°

Hi Terry,a sizzling noise from the rear drivers side wheel area of your car when the road is wet could be caused by the brakes. When driving on wet roads, water can get splashed onto the hot brake components, causing them to sizzle as the water evaporates. This is usually harmless and the noise should go away once the brakes dry out.

Another possibility is a leak in the exhaust system near the rear driver's side wheel. When water hits the hot exhaust pipe, it can also create a sizzling sound. You might also smell exhaust fumes in the cabin if this is the case. Visually inspect the brakes for any signs of wear or damage. If the brake pads are thin or warped, they may be more prone to generating noise when wet.

See if you can pinpoint the exact location of the noise. If it's coming directly from the wheel area, it's more likely the brakes. If it seems to be originating from underneath the car, an exhaust leak is a possibility.

If you suspect an exhaust leak, try taking a sniff around the rear driver's side wheel well    after driving on a wet road. You might be able to detect the smell of exhaust hope this helps
