2002 Rav4 - Speedometer/odometer problem - Check-engine ON

Hi everyone, 

I am new in this forum and was hoping someone could give me a hand with my problem.

We just bought a 200.000kms 2002 Rav4 and all worked perfectly during the first 2 days.

Then we realized that the speedometer started working intermittently until now that stopped working at all.

Along with this the check-engine light turned on and I just realized the odometer paused as well (it was working when I bought it).

I don't know if it has something to do with the problem but the car "jumps" a little when going through the first gears.

 

I came across a similar problem on this forum (attached) but I am no mechanic and couldn't see the photos so I don´t wanna make the problem even worse.

I am just looking for some advice in case it might be an easy-solution problem before having to spend a lot of money in case is something big.

Graham reposted the pictures further down the post (19 Sept 2017) so the pictures are there. It can't do harm just to check for potential damp / corrosion on that connector ...
