She needs easy access for front passenger due to transporting an elderly parent & room in the boot for a wheel chair,

I am glad that your wife is doing it that way. 😉

I currently have the Yaris Cross and, whilst a comfortable, very nice and economical car to drive, it is not doing a lot for me, hence the possible, (okay, probable), change to the new C-HR. Unless of course, somebody talks me out of it! :no2:

Can probably understand the not doing a lot on the YC, at 116ps for a car that size is unpowered. I have the hatchback, it's good for handling and enough power. I'm not voting, though the 2.0 chr would probably get my vote 🫠

Well, I did warn you.  Due to the lack of response to my plea for somebody to talk me out of it, I have had to go out today and, following a test drive, placed an order for a C-HR 'Sol', which is, as near as makes no difference as far as I can tell, almost the same as the UK 'Excel'. 😊

Sorry but no comparison between the C-HR and Yaris Cross 🤦‍♂️

Only you can decide what suits you and your lifestyle but the 2 models are chalk and cheese 🤷‍♂️

That phrase crossed my mind when I was driving the C-HR. 🙂. As I said to my wife last night, if the Yaris Cross is 'nice but a bit ordinary', the C-HR is very nice and posh. :thumbsup:

Well, I collected my C-HR this afternoon. Obviously it is way too early to start enthusing, but after doing 50 miles I can say I am impressed. 👍. It seems so much smoother, quieter and comfortable. The car has 19" wheels with 'Bridgestone' tyres. AND the head unit thingywotsit plays MP4 video files, which the Yaris Cross was unable to do. :clapping:

1.8 or 2.0?

@Marjan

It is the 1.8 version. Obviously it is too early to give any figures - I just filled up this morning, but the car was showing 60.8 mpg at fill up. Once I have a few fill ups under my belt and entered on my spreadsheet, I will have a more accurate idea of the mpg, but, so far, as I think I might have mentioned, (😀), I am impressed. Some of the information I wanted was a bit of a booger to find and display, as it all seems different to the Yaris Cross, but I am getting there. :thumbsup:

I have owned both. My YC was a design model and initially I was impressed as it was very similar to our regular Yaris. MPG was amazing, better than the Yaris and the boot was big. I quickly became disillusioned as the design trim was so mean and it didn't even have reversing sensors. Fast forward to the 71 plate CHR GR Sport we bought a couple of weeks ago. It feels more comfortable and grown up. Great ride and feels more solid on the road. Build quality is much better. Boot is large and a good shape. I love the style although previously I dismissed this vehicle due to the rear interior visibility and sloping roof line. MPG is about 57 around town. Although the car is bigger I'd doesn't feel large whilst driving.

YC has better mpg than Yaris? Must be talking about the MK3, no way will be better than MK4. My average is 74 mpg in summer for the MK4 Yaris, some members gets higher. The chr is one class above the YC, this will be the one I would be looking at when the requirement to get a bigger car.

On that tangent, I just finished my last tank and managed to keep it at 79.4mpg - Managed to get it back up to 81 a few times but damned traffic scuppered my chances of getting back to the 84 peak I had (When the mpg is high, those stationary charging periods really hurt! :crybaby: ).

Still, about £38 for 500 miles - Not bad :biggrin:

I was admiring a 23 plate metallic red CHR this morning which didn't have tinted rear windows/hatch and it looked much lighter inside. I think I could be tempted, it looked very bright and cheerful 🤪

Exactly like this one I found on the steven eagell website

Coming late to this topic, having just ordered a CH-R Excel (due October) as a downsize from my 2021 Lexus RX450h. I drove about a dozen cars from all sorts of brands and in different ‘classes’ over the course of a week, and had originally planned to drive the Yaris Cross and CH-R back to back.

However, having reviewed the two interior finishes, I decided not to drive the Yaris as I found the compromise with the Lexus just too great in terms of ‘perceived quality.’ The CH-R, although not close to Lexus perceived quality, was very strong when compared with options from VW (Golf), Mazda (CX30), KIA (Niro), Hyundai (Kona), Skoda (Scala and Kamiq), and Seat (Ateca). Frankly the only two cars I drove with ‘better’ interiors were the Volvo XC40 and the Lexus LBX, but the LBX felt too small and overpriced for me and the Volvo had a slightly hesitant and jerky dual clutch gearbox.

As others have said, it’s a question of priorities. With no children or pets, the obvious practicality compromises in the latest CH-R don’t bother me, whereas the smooth and quiet drive were far more important.

It’s been noted that the prices are high, which they are. My current RX was about £55k list only three years ago, but the comparable new RX is more like £70k. That said, in comparison with the other options, and after a nice discount through CarWow (£2600 off and the highest offer for my RX) the CH-R compares very well with the competition and has attractive PCP interest rates at the moment.

It was £50pm cheaper than the XC40, £60pm cheaper than the Mazda, and almost £100pm cheaper than the LBX! The only equivalent offer that was ‘cheaper’ per month was the Golf, and even that was marginal. Add to that the GFV is reasonable - I’ll be retiring in 3-5 years so may well buy the Toyota outright at the end of the agreement - and it was the obvious choice for me.

@dannyboy413

How are you getting on with your chr? Do you find it quieter and better to drive than the Yaris Cross? Also be interested to hear your views on whether the rear view visibility is a problem.

An update would be very much appreciated thanks Chas

@Chas G

Love it! The C-HR is a bit quieter than the Yaris Cross, even though it is on 19" wheels. I am very comfortable in the car, although I have not had any long(ish) journeys yet - the longest being about 1 hour. I was a bit concerned about the rear visibilty but I have to say that I do not find it a problem. If I go out to the car in a morning to take my wife to work and it has been raining, the rear window is covered in ... err ... rain. I have to drive about a mile and half to get to a main road, (I say main road as two cars can just pass each other there!), but even then, the rear window is starting to clear a bit. Once I get to a 'proper' road, another 1.5 miles, it is quite easy to see out of. My version does not have the digital rear view mirror, but I do not think it is really needed. If I do need to reverse, I have the two door mirrors and the 'normal' reversing camera, even if the rear window is still covered in rain drops. When it comes to petrol consumption, have a look at -

In a nutshell, I am extremely pleased with the C-HR and think it is a better car than the Yaris Cross - but, obviously, everybody has their own opinions, so not everybody will agree with me. :thumbsup:
