TNS510 Sat Nav Volume Now Low or Very Low!

Recommended Posts

Posted

My IQ3 has the TNS510 navigation system fitted.  Recently the voice guidance volume level on the sat nav has gone low or very low and is hardly audible.  The sound only seems to be coming out of the speaker on the passenger door however all other audio is working fine.

I have gone through the manual and tried everything I can think of but without success.

Has anyone else had the same problem?  Any help will be gratefully received! ☺️

Well, I have the 510 in my iQ2, and the navigation aUxío only ever came out of the passenger side - if playing radio or music it still plays in the right side, which is fine.

As for volume - have you tried increasing the volume to an acceptable level using the steering wheel control. Does the radio/mp3 volume become too loud?

Ah thanks for the reply and your suggestion.  I've just gone and experimented and tried increasing the volume on the steering wheel and also using the dash button too.  Unfortunately the radio/mp3 volume increases but the Nav volume stays the same.  It's almost like the Nav volume has defaulted to about a quarter of what it should be and is quiet on setting 7 and very quiet on setting 1 🤔

Try altering the volume when the satnav is talking “turn left at next junction” etc

Hi there and thank you too, I've just tried adjusting the volume during a journey and unfortunately the volume level is still staying very low.

How many Speakers should the voice guidance come from? Mine is only coming from the little round speaker on the passenger door.

I’ve been out and had a play with mine - Select the Setting icon (top row, 3rd along).  This will expand to a further 6 icons - Navigation, General, bluetooth, [Volume], Memory & Language.   If you select Volume, this allows you to increase or decrease the voice guidance by itself.

As for the speaker, I have only ever had this come from the passenger side speaker - it also dips the volume of the radio or music from both sides to allow the SatNav voice to be heard, so I’d suggest it’s supposed to be like this!

Thanks for your reply, I've just gone to have another experiment but not sure how to access the setting icon. the buttons on the left hand side from top to bottom are Map(Voice)/Dest/Menu/Tel/Audio/Mode.

I have gone in via Menu > Navigation > Volume and adjusted the voume on the 0-7 scale but still no joy:-(

Is there a fuse that might relate to the volume?

Sorry - brain fade…. I have the TNS350 (I always get these two mixed up).  I did have the manual, for the 510, I’ll try and find it and try to spot the difference!

Regarding a fuse - unlikely, as this can only have two states… working and not working.  As all your problems arc based on the intensity of the volume (of lack of) it’s unlikely to be the issue.

Ah that's no problem, that makes sense re the fuse though - it's a real head scratcher this one!!!🤪

Here’s the relevant manual page:

not sure on the 510 there may be a hidden menu like the touch/touch 2 has

Menu > Navigation >

Make sure 3rd page in the setup - Voice guide in all modes is ON

if in doubt hit the default button

Unfortunately the page doesn't seem to correspond with my NAV, thank you for your help in trying to solve this one though.

Thank you, I've gone into the 3rd page and even with the voice guides ON in all modes the volume is still really low.

I hit default but still no joy 😞

This is perplexing! Is it really a TNS510… (looks like the one below)?

Yes, that's the TNS510 😃  The page seems to correspond with a NAV from a Verso maybe the Touch 2 Go as it mentions a power/volume knob which the 510 doesn't have.

I'm hoping it's not a PCB issue 🤔

Thanks again though.

Hi there and thank you, yes that's the correct manual and the picture Barkley posted is the correct NAV.  Still no joy having gone through all the options again 🥲

if you go into the hidden menu does it give any error codes?

edit. let it boot press and hold the menu button, turn the headlights on and off 3 times

remove the sd card let it boot, turn it off and put the card back

Aha, I've found the hidden menu, all seems ok though.

I removed the SD card let it boot, turned it off and put the card back but still no luck.

using the radio/cd/other play some music and play with the fader and balance to confirm each speaker is working correctly/same volume

Brilliant, I've just done a check and the main speaker on the passenger side is out!!!!

As Barkley said, the NAV guidance does only seem to come out of the passenger door Speakers hence why mine was so quiet as it was only using the mini round speaker.

Thank you so much, now I just have to work out how to get to the speaker and what's wrong with it!  Any tips would be gratefully received ☺️

The cone is probably shot - I found this often happens if the car is parked in a location where thx sun can bake if solid.  The only solution is to swap it for another and you’ll be up and running at minimal cost.

Sorry I can’t tell you what to get as I’d need to disassemble mine first and I’m not a fan of fixing what hasn’t broken!  😁

thanks for the update, as you had no errors and the nav prompt only comes from one side it was a case of ruling out possible causes
