Hello Community

I need your advise on this please, I just spoke to a gentleman who is selling his Estima, when i asked if he can verify the mileage he said he has no import documents as this car is imported from Singapore not from Japan.

Could that be true? If yes how would i know if the mileage of the Car is genuine? Do i need to take a mechanic with me to see the car?
Does anyone know/Recommend a good mechanic?

Thanks

Hi Saka, while unusual, it's possible the seller imported the Estima from Singapore themself and doesn't have formal documentation. Singapore does have used car exports, but typically reputable importers would have records.Ask the seller for any service records the car may have. These can be from Singapore or after import. Check if the mileage readings in the records progress logically.

Taking a mechanic with you is highly recommended. They can inspect the car for signs of wear and tear that may not match the claimed mileage

If you know someone in Singapore, see if they can help research the car's history. There might be online resources for past registration information (mileage might be included). If you can't confirm any details then walk away as import cars can come with their own set of problems.

Hope this helps.

When was the car imported into the UK?

If a while ago, and it has been used in the UK, you can check the MOT history - https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history

The following may also be useful in determining what should have been done when it was imported: https://www.gov.uk/importing-vehicles-into-the-uk/getting-vehicle-approval

Im told the rear folding seats are different in the Singapore model  (seems strange/unlikely, but its what Ive heard). So might want to ensure that works the way you are expecting.

Re milage - viewing wear and tear and overall state (as mentioned above) is probably the best indicator.  Plus any past MOT's from since been in the UK.
