I now have an intake from a JDM Cynos with the 5E-FHE. These differ from the Sera intake manifold because it has two sets of inlet tracts. A short set (for high rpm) and a long set (for low rpm) with a butterfly changeover operated by engine vacuum. A similar system is used on the Ferrari 360 and the Porsche 996-series 911

Anyone want to try it? Also an upgrade for the 4E-FTE Starlet turbo engine, although an extra sensor needs adding.

what exactly is the benefit of this????

With a single inlet tract the system is a compromise. With a variable system, you can have a short tract for high rpms, or a longer track which helps slow down the fuel/air mix, allowing it to mix better which is of benefit when it ignites.

Peak power between 5E-FHE with and without this stays the same, roughly 108bhp@6600rpm, but the torque goes up from 97lb ft to 100lb ft and peak torque happens at 4000rpm rather than 5200rpm.

This would be felt as better mid-range punch, possibly with a benefit of better fuel economy if the fuel is being burnt more efficiently as well.

is there any modification to the car needed, or is it just a bolt on and go job??

boro sera..do you have a 4efte or a 5efe. if you have a 5efe then ur good to go. if you have a 4efte then you will need to tap & die a hole so one extra sensor can fit.
