temperature control has a mind of its own.

Avensis t27  2015

Temperature control has problems, sometimes when I want to lower the temperature it doesn't work,

and it goes higher rather than lower, and if I adjust it in small steps it works again,

but not always, has anyone else experienced this before?

Hi Luc,you are not alone several Avensis T27 2015 owners have reported similar issues with the temperature controls. There are two main culprits. Dirty climate control knob contacts, dust buildup on the electrical contacts inside the knob can cause erratic temperature control. This is a common issue. Dust and grime can build up on the electrical contacts inside the knob, causing erratic behaviour like the temperature increasing when you try to lower it.You can try cleaning the climate control knob yourself. Consult your car's manual or find online instructions specific to your Avensis model for knob removal. Once removed, gently clean the contacts with a cotton swab and electronic contact cleaner. Be meticulous when replacing the knob.

Faulty temperature blend door actuator, this is a small motor that controls the flaps that mix hot and cold air. If it malfunctions, it can disrupt the proper mixing of air, leading to problems adjusting the temperature in your car.

The symptoms you described temperature not lowering and needing small adjustments lean more towards a faulty blend door actuator, but trying the DIY fix for the knob first is a reasonable initial step.Hope this helps

If you want to disassemble the control, the radio must be removed.

then it is quite a job, for the time being I am going to leave it as is,

set to 19.5 degrees, the other control knob is not affected by it, so leave it as it is for the time being.

Thank you anyway for the clear explanation 🙂

Radio removal is very easy task to do. Takes about 3 min to remove radio:

There is also video for cleaning those contacts and it doesn't look to be hard task either:

I also had the problem of the temperature jumping up and down when trying to adjust.  It was worse during cold weather.  I did the steps in the above video to fix it.  However, it is a good idea to put some contact grease on the contacts after cleaning them with isopropyl.  It will reduce friction and prevent oxidisation on the contacts over time.  I used Electrolube CG53A.
