I bought the new 2024 chr GR in January, I think I might be the only one in Ireland at the moment. Seen one or maybe 2 Premier orange addition but they might be the same car.

Having a few issues with mine, the rear lights were filled with condensation which had to be replaced, and now I'm having a Squeeking issue with the breaks which has yet to be resolved. Mine and another GR demo car are having the exact same issue so it might be a production problem. Toyota are investigating.

Anyone else with a similar problem?

If it’s of any help, I had squeaking brakes on my ‘23 reg GR Sport. It was coming from the front brakes.
Dealer cleaned them a number of times, and this helped for a few days. I was told that there was a build up of something on the discs. They eventually contacted Toyota GB with the necessary videos. The front break discs and pads were finally replaced and this cured the problem.

They have replaced them once already, although with the same make of disks and pads and the squeek is still there. They also had toyota Ireland's guys look at them and bed the brakes in and it's still happening. The car only has 3k kms on it. The other gr has 6k kms and it's just as bad.

So now they think it's a production problem as the think there's a film building up on the brakes some how.

Its Toyota Europe issue to sort out - once they work out what's causing the issue & an official cure to fix it.

Its just one of the joys of buying a first year of production vehicle.

Hi and thank you for the pictures.
It looks like the discs surface has some glazing and probably with the time it will go away. What you can try yourself is to have a spray bottle filled with clean water and spray all brake discs thoroughly and leave the car for overnight or two days ideally so the docs can get little bit rusty. Then drive as usual and the rust will clean away and eventually remove the glazing and your brakes will quietened a bit.
This is best intervention on a new car without need of any repair or parts replacement.

Toyota Ireland have had the car, they tried getting rid of glazing, they say some sort of film keeps coming back and building up.

My car has 3000, there is another GR with 5000 and the same problem.

I'm not sure if the 2.0 has the same disks as the 1.8, the garage isn't sure either.

Hopefully here back from them next week with the next fix.

Let see what deal will do and then you can use my method with corrosion to remove glaze. What you had experience can be because of poor quality brake pads or bed in process. However with the time and mileage all those unpleasant noises can go away and no need to do anything., in many cases this is better solution than visiting dealer and let mechanics work on the car .

Toyota Ireland got back in contact with me today regarding the squeak, Toyota Europe found its the 20'' Rims causing the noise, they are acting line a "Guitar String" and amplifying the sound. Apparently if you put 19" Rims on, they sound goes away, and if you put the 20" Rims on a different car like the 1.8ltr versions you will get the noise.

They say they have a solution but need to track test it, they didnt tell me if the solution was a New Rim, a different design or what. In the mean time they offered to put 19" on the car or maybe a different 20" from another Toyota range, they have to look at the options for the later solution.

I have had the C-HR Sol for just about a month and done about 900 miles. I have not had any problems with the brakes, but the car is on 19" wheels.

Discs look glazed - no reason why changing the wheels from 20” to 19” would cure this. Try braking harder and see if the glazing goes away. Don’t be too soft on the brakes 👍

There's 6k on the clock, it's not a glazing issue. Toyota Europe have said them selves it's a issue with the 20" rims that come with the GR.

I can’t see any logic whatsoever with that but keep at them because it will be annoying 🤷‍♂️

Can't wait to see the official fix for this issue.

Wonder if they will add a harmonic balancer weight to the suspension / hub?

Or maybe an updated reinforced alloy wheel design & a TSB / recall to replace the wheels

The joys of first year of production 🤣

l’ll keep an eye on your issue as my GR Sport has been built and is now At Sea 👍

It's not a issue with the car it's self, it's the 20" Rims that come with the GR, they put 19" on the GR they have and had no issue and when they put the 20" on a different version the problem was there.
