Battery indicator on Yaris Hybrid

I have just purchased a used Yaris Hybrid 2022 model with 2,500 miles from our local dealership, a few weeks ago. Yesterday I had to get the AA out to fix it as the Battery was faulty/flat. I couldn't start the car. The very nice AA man got my Battery charged up enough to get me back to the dealership. Apparently they replaced the Battery with an upgraded one.

Today I checked the state of the traction battery on the car display and it shows 7 bars lit up (1 to go). Now the user guide is a little confusing as it reads (in a  diagram) when 7 bars are lit up the battery is LOW is this correct?

Can anybody help me as I find the user manual confusing.

Thanks

There are 2 batteries in the car - The big high-voltage 'traction' Battery, which makes the car move and is represented by the 8 bars you mention, and a small 12v Battery which powers all the low-voltage electrics (e.g. lights, dashboard, ECU/computers, door locks etc.). Both live under the rear passenger bench seat.

The one they replaced for you is almost certainly the small 12v Battery - There is a known issue with the 12v batteries running out of charge prematurely, which I personally suspect is due to a lot of half-dead batteries that were left during the pandemic, which is exacerbated by low use of the car.

If they changed it, take the car on a random drive on some nice roads to familiarise yourself with it and also make sure it's gotten a good charge, and you should be okay as long as you use the car at least vaguely regularly.

Just to add ….no, that’s not correct.  7 bars lit up means the (traction) Battery is practically fully charged.

I don't know about the Mk4 but on the Mk3 green bars are charged and white bars are 'dead'. So the white bars light up to green when charged.

In a monochrome booklet the green would show as grey/black, so that may be confusing you.

Not sure where do you observe the charge level, there are also different displays but on the cluster display they are blue:

On multimedia screen they are blue as well but lighter

Look green to me on my PC screen.

But it seems the 'dead' bars are dark on the Mk4 unlike the Mk3 being light.

Thanks for all your responses, a great help from all of you.

I now know that that the lit up gradients in blue mean thet the Battery is almost fully charged so I am ok.

The user manual is a little confusing (I am 75 so my excuse - it's my age)! but now I realise that it is monchrome diagram I was referring to and I mis-read the bandw colouring of the chart somewhat.

Apart from all this it is a fantastic car and a good replacement, although much smaller, than my Audi Q2.

Thanks again

"a little" is being polite - it's not your age 🙂 .
