The aircon?  It keeps the system fresh and stops any bacteria from building up, causing that foul stench from people who turn off their aircon and only use it once in a blue moon.  Have you ever smelled it?  it's RANK.

 

Also, the aircon improves your heating in the winter allowing it to heat up quicker.  Most people associate AIRCON with cool which on its own is, however, I believe the correct term is the HVAC system, heating ventilation and air conditioning.
