Heyy,

Last week I picked up my new Toyota Aygo X,  If I drive too fast I get an audio speed notification, I can turn this off, but when I restart the car the settings are back to audio. Does anyone know how to permanently change this to visiul only?

It is part of some mandatory changes that the EU and UK are adopting. So, no it cannot be turned off permanently.

It means you are exceeding the speed limit !!! It's not always very accurate, because sometimes the camera in the car does not read the road speed signs correctly or when using AA or CP maps it will bleep etc.....I think !!!  Personally, I like it.  Anything to keep me within the speed limit is most welcome.

I have picked up my new Aygo this morning and have the same problem. I cannot work out how to turn it off. I know there is an argument that I shouldn't go over but I live in Wales and sometimes it is very difficult to drive at 20mph

See my reply from Friday above.

Blame the Welsh Parliament for the 20mph speed limit.

I work in Wales, you will have to get used to it or face a fine 😂😂

Apart from being boring, we found the 20 zone in London made for much more relaxed driving.  On entering the zone I just set the limiter to 20 and concentrated on the view.

OK, my true speed was 18 or 19 and plenty of motorists were intent on driving faster.  I didn't see that I had any need to facilitate them breaking the law.

I bought a 2022 Aygo X Exclusive earlier this week and it was set to visual only.  I wanted the audio and visual alert so went to the settings menu and it gave me the option to turn it off, have visual only or visual and audio.  There is also the option to change when the alert kicks in.

However, legislation effective from July will discount this. Cars bought new recently will probably no longer have this facility.

What everyone who seems to like this is not mentioning, is that it can often be telling you the wrong speed limit. Go round a roundabout with 5 exits, one of which clearly has a 40mph sign at the beginning and it will pick that up even if your exit is only 30mph. It will not change until it sees another sign. Same if you are in a 20mph road then onto a 30mph road, it will not change until it sees a sign to tell it so. Same with retail parks. Whoever thinks this is a good idea is an idiot, but I'm never surprised by any of the fools we have running the Country.

I have a new Aygo X. The speed warning will always reset every time you switch the car on no matter what you do. Even if you just silence the audio it will reset back to full warning. I just get used to switching it all off every time I start the car, takes seconds and I barely even realise I have done it.

Likewise the lane assist and line warning on the top right button. I automatically switch all that off as well by holding he button a few seconds. That system only kicks in above 30mph anyway but still I dont want it on.

It can all be made optional by a dealer as its only law in Europe, but you might have  hard time convincing them to do it. It's so easy to disable I am not bothered.

Our friends new Mercedes does the exact same thing, its on all new cars.

Edit. Pre 2024 Aygos yes you can set it when to warn over a threshold or turn off the audio warn and it stays off. Demo car was like this but I knew the 2024 one would reset every time.

Having recently completed a speed awareness course (online and actually very imformative), intially I hated the audable alert however I've got use to it and its a good reminder as any further speeding incursions will result in a fine and 3 points 😞

Prior to this my last speeding fine was 20 years ago!

That has nothing to do with my comment about it being wrong a good percentage of the time does it. Also all car manufacturers speedometers over read by between 5 and 10 %. It's illegal to make them under read, if it said 29mph and you were doing 32mph then you'd be in trouble, and able to sue the auto maker. This checkable by all those electronic road signs, that always read lower than your car speedo. Therefore having something beeping at 31mph is totally useless, even at 32mph, as it's just wrong. I did a speed awareness course years ago, still know that anywhere with street lights is 30mph unless otherwise  signed, and have never had one since. I managed to cope with this purely on my own. It's dangerous, both by getting the limit wrong, until it sees another sign, and distracting when there is absolutely no need.

At the end of the day, Intelligent Speed Assistance is a mandatory fitment on all new cars ordered from 7th July 2024. So whether you like it or not, it is here to stay.

Don't disagree it's here to stay, that doesn't alter the fact it's actually dangerous in numerous situations. I live with it by switching it off thanks goodness, as I'm perfectly capable of following road signs or not, much better than it is when there aren't any for a mile or so.

So how do you switch off the audio? I can't find it in the settings.

It is like the awful lane assist warning when the steering wheel jerks in your hand, you have to switch it off every time you start the car. My Aygo X is a 2022 model and it does not have the speed warning.

Same place as you turn off the warning, but hold 'OK' and it opens a sub menu. Still resets when you turn the car back on.

Dunno. Different setups it seems for different years. I press and hold the top right button on the wheel every start, turns it all off. I dont want any of it, but have resigned myself to a quick restoration of me driving the car every time I start it. Takes seconds. I also lowered the sensitivity on the pre-collision system as it was like a paranoid back seat driver having a crisis every five minutes when driving normally.

Will be as and when legislation becomes effective. For example the intelligent speed assistance became mandatory for all new cars ordered after July 24.

I set my speed limiter a mile an hour less than the road sign and it generally avoids the bleeper. I think you can turn the speed siren off in the multimedia sysyem under SoundsAygo.thumb.png.54a783096142ca677d1eb2adbdca4946.png
